Looks like a Hartley 16' ?? I've been looking at the Hartley 28 for the next big boat project I do if my Vacationer stays afloat. It has some pretty decent room for different configurations.

After stopping by and seeing Chris's fantasic looking paint job and excellent workmanship, I got a lot of inspiration. I got the binnacle mounted, all the cockpit flooring in, and got the steering cable shaft built and cable run. I feel much better now. Work has been keeping me so busy I was getting too stressed. Thats easy. No falling allowed :-D Seriously though. There is a 1' base that the binnacle will slide into and be epoxied to. This base will then be epoxied and screwed through to the keel. Around this base will be plywood strips epoxied to the floor in a haringbone design to add looks and stregnth to the floor. and on top of all that of course will be... epoxy. With the set up I have planned, I will be able to operate both sails and drink a beer without leaving the captains chair. Hopefully this reduces the chance of falling on the binnacle. I'm planning on having a roller furling on the jib as well, I'm still thinking of ways that I can get the mainsail raised and lowered without getting up. In case you haven't figured it out yet, I'm going for the laziest sailboat I can Actually, I'm the only one who knows how to sail, and if all the controls are reachable from the captains seat then my wife and kids can sit in one spot without having to move over every time I need to reach a line. Been there, done that....

I redesigned the binnacle again and made it a bit sturdier, adn allowed for easier access for steering parts replacement. I also need a longer cable than what I ordered. The instructions say not to bend the cable any more than an 8 inch diameter. The best advice I would say to anyone going this route is to add 1 foot for every 90 deg turn you need to make. In my case I need an extra 4 feet. On the bright side I believe I will be able to route the cable straight back from the binnacle after all, so the whole thing will be more symmetrical.

Ok, here's the wheel all finished. It turned out great! nice and shiny. The green backgraound in the center really sets off the design, and will match the green trim on the boat when its done. I'm keeping it displayed in my living room till its time to go on the boat. Time to get back to the boat now.

Looks great on this board too Robert. Have you pulled it on that tandem axle yet? I haven't started shopping for trailers yet. I used to have asingle axle trailer that would be perfect. I wish I had kept it now. :microwave: Kevin

Thanks Simon, I know what you mean about the small stuff. You just dont get the same reaction when you take someone out to the garage and say "look how smooth it is since the last time you saw it. " and they just look at you like they can't tell what your saying. :? I resized my pics so they shouldn't take up more than the whole screen now. Sometimes I forget people don't have high speed internet or set there resolution as high as mine.

Clever Frank I like it. Thanks for the advice. I got the first two port side panels on today. I'm waiting on getting the rear panel installed until the steering is all set up so I can still get in side the lazarette. The all important "Captains View"
