I had to wrestle that particular one out of the wheel well after a mile or so....

My Vacationer is 9 years old, and they're fine. (I don't sail in salt water, though, and that may be why.)

What the hell is a "kitchen coop"...? Lisa and I went back to Sarasota about 6 weeks ago, for a 5-day getaway. Man, that place is awesome. St. Armand's Circle, Siesta Key Beach, etc.. Just like I remember it form 9 years ago, except for that giant statue of the sailor kissing the nurse. That's new. We saw gators at Myakka State Park. Hell, we even did a bit o' garage sale-ing. We did have a little issue one night with the rental car and some road cones. But the Florida DOT probably didn't figure out that they're missing until we were well on our way home. ;D

Did Bruce Kershaw ever get that little boat of his completed?

If my boat were that close to done, there's no way I could work on it just once a week. As I got closer and closer with my Vaca, it became an obsession. Or perhaps I'm just nuts.

x2 on the 16" spacing. I think my Vaca is at 12", and it's a God's plenty. Any hardware store will sell you brass grommets and a grommet punch kit for about 10-15 dollars.

One more thing I will add: My trailer is not as long as the boat. The last meter of the boat hangs over the back of the trailer. Nothing about the trailer needs to be exactly perfect. The Vacationer doesn't weigh very much. It's under 400kg. In all honesty: NOTHING AT ALL on these boats needs to be perfectly measured.

Marcelo, I apologize. I completely forgot about this question. I went out tonight and took the measurement for you. I don't know if Argentina uses Metric or SAE, so I'll give you both. From the bottom of the transom to the center of the axle is 8ft 9 inches. That's 2.64 meters. (Check my conversion to be sure it's correct). I measured from the bottom outside corner of the transom. I believe the center of gravity of the Vacationer is approximately 9ft 0 inches That's 2.74 meters. I remember working this out in the shop 9 years ago. I balanced the boat upright on a round piece of pipe under the keel and rolled it forward and backward until I found the balance point.

Can you scan and post an image of what this thing's gonna look like? You've got me curious.

Marcelo, Are you asking about the location of the trailer axle? I can go out back and measure mine tomorrow if that's what you're looking for. Konrad

No, no iceboating. Sadly, my last iceboat was lost to wind. In other words, wind in the spring blew the tarp off, and I didn't know it. And it filled with rainwater for a whole summer, and turned to a rotten mess. We're waiting on a forclosed acreage that we lowballed (with an outbuilding) before anything like iceboating comes back into the picture.

Man... We got STUPID amounts of ice!! It's been single digits here for over a WEEK. I think we have about a foot of ice everywhere. (You only need 4" of ice)

It's probably virtually identical to the One Sheet Skiff, which I built in two weekends. http://www3.sympatico.ca/herbert.mcleod/skiff.htm I put a 3.3 hp ouboard on it a tooled around the marina. But I wasn't crazy enough to get above 1/3 throttle and plane it out. I guarantee you it would have, though. You'd be surprised how much payload you can put on one of those things before it ships water. (ask me how I know) You really can't go wrong with one. I mean, you're out what? 50 bucks total if you don't like it...?

This question isn't directly related to the Stevenson boats, but there's a knowledge base here that may be able to point me in the right direction (PAR or Bruce, or another builder?) I'd like to find a resource for comparing composite construction to "regular" wood frame construction. Here's an example: Let's say I have a regular old #2 pine 2x4, and I put it on edge. It will have a certain load capacity before failure. Now let's say I take a similar board, but a 1x4, and do the same thing. Let's say I put bidirectional carbon fiber fabric and epoxy on the sides of it. It also will have a certain load capacity. Which would be stronger? I realize this is a wildly simplified example, and many variables have been left out of it. But that's the kind of data I'm looking for. Any ideas where I can look?
