  1. Since I know you boys would not be happy with just any old pvc pump gun... :multi: I give you the SUPER MARSHMALLOW RIFLE! http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2009/07/powerful_air-powered_marshmallow_ca.html Have fun...and don't put any eyes out!
  2. Dear Matt, Shalom Shalom Shalom and welcome. I am in So. Cal so have no real answer to your question. However perhaps one of the amazing men who run this site will see and consider this idea: Brilliant Messing About Peoples: Wouldn't it be nice to have a graphical map (opt in of course) for our members? It needn't be exact, in terms of cities or anything, just a regional map to allow us to get an idea where people are regionally. It would be super handy. Anyway it is just an idea Blessings, RS P.S. these are two of my favorites, alas we were just passing though
  3. Done and Done! It was my pleasure to do so. G-d forbid that in the midst of losing jobs, our national pride, and our security, that we also lose the one of the few places that are capable of inspiring our youth? If we lose those places, where can they learn stand up? Learn to appreciate? Learn to care for? I wish you blessings and much power behind you! Hazack! ~RS
  4. Images to follow, took several pictures, and realized that perhaps I overstated a little. It is only the rubrails that have truly lost their color and "greyed out" the rest is still mostly "wood" colored... :? I have mostly decided to follow Mr. Obees advice, strip it down to bare wood, epoxy, epoxy, epoxy, and then varnish. Does anyone have any experience with the two-part polyurethanes? In researching I found a UV cured Varnish.....OMGoodness!!! Fabulous! but the inital outlay of $400. is waaaaay beyond even my guilt budget. Does anyone have a favourite? or is there anything I should especially steer clear of? I am also looking at another poly: specifically West Marines' WoodPro Plus. I know that this will not give me the deep stellar polish of a heavy varnish coat, but everything I have read thus far seems to indicate that it really does a bang up job of protecting the wood from UV damage. (aside from opaque paint that is not an option) And MOUSE MOUSE MOUSE! Shalom Chaver! Shalom! Just realized that I left my flash drive (with the pics on it) at work so the photos will have to go in a separate post. Meanwhile I appreciate any advice, or even emotionally laden opinions.
  5. In my defense.....I have had one helluva time... My Dad is incensed :shocked!: He came down to visit and of course had to visit "her" first. Now I am being grounded, my next "8-10 Sundays better be consumed by getting Annie back in shape!" I would post pictures, but to be perfectly honest I am embarrassed. The bowsprit is rough, the hatches are worse, the rub rails and the toe rails are silvered. I need some real good advice (since my dads specialty is engines and transmissions not wood) on how to get all this done right. I know that heavy sanding will be involved, and probably no small amount of tears, and oil, and epoxy and such. there are so many opinions out there, that I am overwhelmed. So I thought I would come to the place I trust best, and to those whom I know do this well. Oil? Epoxy? Varnish? Enamel? What should I tackle first? Where do I start? And how do I keep this from happening in the future!!! (My daddy put the fear of (little wooden boats) G-d in me!) Any help sorting out this would be appreciated. And no, painting over it is not an option, like I said my daddy is mad!
  6. Shalom All, Some people never post, they are too busy sailing, and working, and doing crazy stuff. Or in my case feel like they have nothing of real value to contribute to the discussion. But that doesn't mean they are not happily learning and gleaning from this wonderful forum. Props! (or swift sails) to those who do post, you are making life better for people you may never meet, or even know about! Blessings, RS
  7. Congratulations on your first... ;D a bit small, but are not all babies? You will LOVE the sailing class! If you find you are taking it with either of the "Debs" please pass along my warm regards, also to Tomas' (who incidentally if you make his aquaintance, will be of great help as he is chock full of racing tips, should that catch your fancy) ~v~ ~v~ [glow=yellow,2,300]O[/glow] V [---'^'---] ________________________ ;D ;D_______ ;D :-\ ___________________ ;D ;D___l l_ [move] / l `*1 /__l_ 8)__J ~-~--~-~~--~~~-~--~-~~--~~--~<_______>~*`~****`~~~***`~~~**`~--~*`~*`'~~~***`~~~**`~--~*`~*`'--~~~*`~-~^~--~~-~~--~~-~~--~~-~~--~~-~~--~~-[/move] A great reason and motivator for getting out on the water, is class! Lovely weather and breezes, and.. oh wow if only I had the rigor and routine of class I should be out sailing every weekend again instead of doing all the stupid (yes I said that! :-X) little tasks that have kept me landbound of a month! Oh, Oh, and the answer to #21 is..... just kidding you'll do great! Have Fun!-RS
  8. Ouch! I remember that; way back b4 they knew that breathing the stuff could kill you, ;D my parents used to send me into the attic crawlspace to retrieve holiday decorations. Yep! itching from fiberglass dust will drive you completely batty. I will remember your wise words Ray, when it comes time to glass rsdacat. (anyone know where I can get a "nuclear suit") As I stated before; buying Annie M has in no way curtailed my plans to build. But having the plans to build will make maintainance on Annie much easier. Annie is a very special boat. Part of the reason I decided to make the purchase and the drive was due to her special place in our collective hearts. I thought that she deserved more than a SOLD tag beside her name. I am betting she has a lot of story still to tell. And no doubt she will teach this beginner boatbuilder a thing or three before the champagne breaks across the bow of her future sister. For this I would have travelled the distance and paid four times over what I did. She is well worth it. I promise to keep everyone here posted on both. Shalom
  9. Hmm ;D let's just say road trip... : It was, all things considered, spectaularly easy, and beautiful. At least from Annie M's POV. But with a loong layover at the border, due to a "medicated" shotgun wielding smuggler. A looooong 36 hour drive; due to a teenager (my friends) who absolutely could not be left one more day where she was staying. And a disconcerting electrical safu that caused all the warning lights in the Vue to go on, and my speedometer to go off, 20 miles from the middle of nowhere and 80 miles out of San Jose, and everything in general taking 2 hours longer than charted..it was frustrating in a way entirely different than say cutting a $80. piece of lumber 2" too short.
  10. [move] Oh Happy Day! [/move] How lovely and joyus! Congratulations to all and many, many happy days ahead. May he always have full sails, and a laughing wind to follow him.
  11. Hi all, & especially Mr. Tim, ;D I got home last night from picking up Annie M and in a some ways I think building one from scratch would have been easier. We will see; I picked up 2 more sheets of nice marine ply this morning while I was out getting the pieces to replace Annie's rub rails. I thought you all might appreciate a few pics of the trip home. Down the 97 to the border, We followed the Columbia river south then west through Washington/Oregon, then took the coast all the way to SF. Then home, we cannot wait to get her up to the lake.. This weekend for sure if not before. On a purely informational note this is an amazingly easy boat to haul. She "tags along' like a champion little sister.
  12. Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey MOUSE!!!!!!!!! Cat Here! I just got through taking Beg & Int Lido's with OCC! You will LOVE It! I had both Debs' the "nice" one and the "mean" one. ;D ;D ha ha ha they are both fantastic! and the Lidos are so reponsive, fun, and fantastic. Oh yeah and....AND!!!!!! If you are close enough to take lessons at Newport HOORAY! You have a sailing buddy in me cause I am driving up to BC, Canada to pick up Tim's Annie M next week. (I am sort of cheating and sort of not because I am also building her a sister; a weekender (or maybe a Vacationer? :-\) also from Stevenson.) I plan on spending a lot of time on Diamond Valley Lake in Hemet, and also in Newport Bay! Hooray Hooray Hooray!!!! You are building a boat. and......YES you CAN absolutely do it! I would love to know when you are planning to take Beg. Lidos. [move]Welcome! ;D Welcome! Welcome! Welcome![/move]

    Greetings, all

Greetings right back atcha. ;D If there is anything I have learned since my first post here. These guys are all really supportive and will add fuel to any little spark of boat building idea you have. Airplane fuel.
  14. Except it is not "pretty"! The Weekender is soooooooo pretty, just imagine this silly little squirt sidled up to that majestic (albeit small) boat. This one has my vote: http://www.gsahv.pp.fi/dinghy1/simboii.htm and it is supposedly easy to build..annnd it has the longitudinal seat....hmmmmm since all my recent efforts have been expended in the planning of fetching "Annie M". And since the "pile o' wood" that is to be "rsdacat" sits unloved and forgotten, perhaps I will test out my boatbuilding skills and "build two" as the authour suggests. One tender for "Annie M" and one for "RSdaCat" ;D

Oh my gosh; it's like "lemon throwing day" (and can sombody please tell me what book THAT is from I have forgotten.) Somebody was just telling me about this stuff to shine up the parts on their odd car. Crazy! And OH MY YOU SOLD HER Julie K! I am heartbroken, I do not believe it. You guys must have hearts of steel. I am already in love with my boat,(well in actuality my "boat" is nothing but a moaning chair and a few pieces of reclaimed lumber yet.) And "Annie" will see the bottom of a bay somewhere before I could ever part with her, and we haven't even been introduced yet! Do you have no sentimentality at all. I am amazed. Maybe I am too sentimental... Wow Life goes on, bigger-better and all that... :'(
