Hi Just have seen this topic. The Mk III's looks amazing! When will be plans available for the 17 Mk III?

I'm really interested with the results of your changes. Did you speak to Graham about this changes? I would like to know about his thinkings for that. Maybe its a good idea to lengthen the boat. But if to lengthen, so I had other ideas for that. I would take maximum care for the weight in this section, because (if at all) the weight is the problem, not the "shortness" of the boat, I think. Any other ideas out there?

We will see...I have not to move the boat in my shop but Im no professionel boatbuilder. When I end with 400hours it would not be "dramatic" for me...;-) Thank you for the infos. Hope to get the plans for the CS next week.

Hi I think its next the rudder, but it looks as if it could become a problem with the rudder. Maybe its only because the photo, but I would take a good measurement for that..But I wouldnt do it in this way because hydrodynamics too. Did you enlarge the boat/cockpit? Or do you maybe only want or need enough space for 2 people there? Would be nice to hear your thinkings why you want to fit it this way.

There are many things thake make things cheaper or more expensive. Maybe the stuff itself is the cheapest thing there todays. Here plywood is much cheaper than in US as I saw. But we have many things that are much more expensive than in the US. Dont take care for all the stupid things in the world. They only make a man crazy....Take a look into the future where you see and feel sailing your fine new boat. It will be fantastic!! This (for me) is the most important thing and helps me to forget all the stupid things in this world. Money is needed to build her, but it ist only......money....

Hi Scott I saw different people who told that they did build a CS17 in around 200-300 hours. I think my Belhaven will take around 800-1000 hours. So, of course the CS is not a very small project, but I hope to build her during one winter or max. 6-9 months (I hope to do maybe around 20 hours week). It will be a fine boat for daysailing the swiss lakes. We have a big cockpit in the CS so it should be fine sailing for my wife, my two small kids (2 and 5 years old now), our dog and me. Later it could be a fine boat for singlehanded daysailing in switzerland for me or for the children. I will see. Im over my Belhaven Plans every night. I like the boat more and more and I know that this boat will be the right one to carry me for my future singlehand sailings on the baltic, mediteran and of course the "Wattenmeer" from the Northsea at germany, netherlands and denmark, maybe up to sweden and norway. If been already on all that places mostly with bigger boats, but the Belhaven will do it all and bring much, much more flexibility for sure. P.S. I saw some prices for the ply in US. Here I can getmuch cheaper, but w ehave to pay much more for fuel, diesel, petroleum oil (very expensive here!!). The prices you have to pay have maybe nothing to do with that stuff you get for the money. There are a lot of other stupid things about that. But I dont mind, because i dont like to look or play the games the people play. I will buy to the price I have to pay, of course look around.....I only take my eyes on my future boat...

Really a very beautiful boat..... Its always the same. The boat you just own is always to small or has other things that (you think) could be better. Then you sell the boat, buy or build a new one,.....and so on. And then you come to the point where you remember your old and mostly smaller boats and you KNOW the smaller one was the boat you had the most fun with.. When I learned sailing I was 5 years old. We had an wooden (mahogany/oak) open boat around 17ft. We slept under the tent and everything was quiet simple. We owned other boats in our family after that up to 45ft. I formyself had a 24ft boat with a draft about 5"3'. After all, the boat and trips I mostly remember and the feeling Im looking for was that on the smallest boat. My Belhaven will bring me back to there I believe. She has the size that is just enough for coastal sailing and she has the comfort that will be good for me now, because Im older. A dry bed and the possibility to have confort on anchor while dreaming, listining music, reading, cooking, eating, loving.... Go on for that small boats....;-)

Hello Ive got the plans for my Belhaven some days ago. The plans are really good. Even with a short overlook I found most of the things really easy to understand. It shouldnt be a big problem to build her. We think about building a CS17 before, so Ive ordered a set of plans for the CS17 too. The building time of the CS17 should be a lot shorter and we can daysail her when the weather is fine on our swiss lakes and build the Belhaven when the weather is not so good and of course all the winters. I will let hear and see more to the right time....

Maybe you should build a 16ft Dinghi and a 50ft Sailboat???? But of course someone can overload every boat....;-))

Hi How much space has it? Maybe not comfortable when you want to sleep there. I think about the feetspace, or when turning around at night.....

Hi Dave Thank you for your post. If the Belhaven is not too sensitive for the weight on the tail, so I would go to 5hp. This engines (same tohatsu or mercury) will be about 27kg, so around ten more than the 3,5hp. But daily sailing will be on the lake with me, my wife and our 2 small children (they are 6 and 2 years old now). So I hope she will not (how to say in english?) suck to the water with the tail. I did sail a lot of Waarschip, and the small 570 did this. So you had to store everything in front and take the people in front too, because she was sensitive for the weight. She was a beautiful sailor, but this is a point that I dont like and want to minimize. If the strength from okume is enough I would prefer it all over the boat. So she will become more stable for rough condition sailing. I really always sail if possible, but of course it needs the wind for that. My first place to sail will be here in switzerland We have thermic winds here on lake thun, but a lot of little wind too. This is my daily need. But I want to sail by sea in the northsea and baltic sea, some inland areas from the netherland too. If going to the mediterran sea, so I prefer france and spain. But why not to go to italy and croatia. There are so many nice places all around and I bet the Belhaven will be happy to travel there and sail many different places like me too. Im waiting for the plans from Graham to see more. He wants to take an overlook for them. I get the metric plans and he wants to make sure that the plans are absolute current. Im waiting for the book from Devlin too. When I got this and studied everything i will know more. But the expiriences from people who build and sailed her are very welcome and of course I know Graham is always there too....;-) I hope that you understand me well. I sometimes dont know what words to use for sailing vocabular. Dont have a internet translater which knows about that.
