Hi Drew Sorry I didn't know earlier that you are up on the Sunshine Coast at Chrissie. I am in Caloundra and I am on the home straight with a Core Sound 20. I have made birdsmouth masts and they are lighter than they look. Be careful of the profile in ally as an oval fore and aft section (a' la Hobbie) is good fore and aft, but floppy athwartships ! I am interested in your decision regarding a lead foot. Is the boat a little tender without it? Looking forward to seeing your progress. All the best for the new year. Howard

Hi I am building a Core Sound 20 and the attached photos show my solution which was cheap, effective and does not detract too much from the traditional look of the rest of the boat. The only drawback is that it was a bit fiddly to build. Except for the little ramps (which are essential to pull the cover downwards), all the bits and pieces are carried by every half-decent chandler. Hope this helps. Howard

I'm building a Core Sound 20. I want to use laced sails for the simplicity and the traditional look, but I have one nagging doubt and I wondered if anyone has tried this? The sprit tensioning line is attached to the mast with an eye-strap and snap-shackle. To reef the sail this would have to be disconnected to allow the lacing to drop past the eye-strap. Has anyone tried this stunt and lived to tell the tale? The clew end is easy but I am loath to make the final fittings and then find I need six hands to control the temporarily freed up sprit while the lacing is helped over the eye-strap. Any feedback would be great.
