You can just run the jackline straight through two eyelets ( hank in between). That way the hank is in the same alignment as the all the others. After a while the piston part of the hank did cause some wear on my staysail ,so I just changed the jackline hanks to a clip type... 'softer 'edges. :wink:

Theres the Nicholson Nyria at 112 ft. She was one of the first big class boats converted to bermudan then subsequently a ketch so its entirely possible she could have been re rigged schooner. You could google her to check some similarities . If you have or can get your hands on Uffa Fox , Sailing and Seamanship, there are lines and a couple of rig drawings.

Par did a much better job of describing what to do than me. 8) We won a regatta Tim, and the prize is a wet sand prep and antifoul care of Altex.The conditions that come with the prize though :roll: .. has to be booked out at a particular( expensive, my cost) yard, time frame etc etc.....So I'm thinking to hook it out for a week and forget the rest.A bit worn out this year it seems. Yes still racing every second weekend on a 70's foam core plastic boat . That boat is bulletproof. A bit frustrating watching the light moderns bursting past us but we have fun.

Watch the woollies Tim. Keep em flowing. They'll no doubt set the trim with the car position to known settings but watch out for a closed leech.. don't let that happen. Back on the cars for more twist and more open, forward on the cars if its too open. Oh and enough leech cord but just enough to stop flutter if it has one. don't let it hook.

Hey Frank, how come some sites will allow linking into other image sites. eg.... I can use all my imagestation photos on the woodenboat forum site but I can't here or on the 2 NZ sites I use. Is it to do with the HTML? ( whatever that is)

Jake, That seperate hard drive idea is the go. I have one and periodically back up the old work win98 pc onto it, take it home , add to the xp machine there and dump the xp files back onto it as well. 120 gig IIRC. THEN, I drop it over to my Mothers house in case of breakin / fire/ whatever. To have one is a good investment IMO... backup.

wakes! don't get me started....:roll: I dropped my wife in the tide one day. We sailed onto the mooring in a wind against tide situation. She picked up the mooring Ok. I dumped off the mainsheet Ok and dropped the sail mostly down Ok and went back to the cockpit to sheet it in. As we were walking back, the boat swung to the tide , the wind pushed out the boom and what was left of the sail out the same side Kirsty was walking down. She backed up until she walked overboard. Remember Flipper?. she was Flipper. I reckon she didn't get wet above her belly button. I would have helped but couldn't because I was rolling around in the cockpit at the time.

Tim, Its a seperate topper . just a light line because I don't run spinnaker. The pole was made in a hurry because of a classic regatta we entered in 2000.I inherited a big jib which I intended to use just for reaching / running and I made the pole quick. It's a bit of a laugh really because its western red cedar( not what you're supposed to use),glued up with gorilla glue and I cored out some its middle as well to save some weight. The first time one of the crew picked it up he got himself psyched up for a big lift and nearly threw it into the mainsail . it was a bit lighter than he expected .

I need a topping lift because its quite a long pole. you could just have a line which toggles around the mast just to safe it up.... to attach the jaw end so it can't flick off.

gidday Tim. I just have jaws on the inboard end of the pole. jam it in against the mast between the hoops. Topping lift on the pole and the general sheet tension keeps it on there.

Ye gods. I hope the guy enjoyed his swim. good to see him pop back up there.
