  1. Thanks for the recommendations! I also got a quick response from Graham. After considering my options, I decided to unstitch the boat and let the panels relax. I then filled in the cracks with epoxy to repair them. The wood is quite dry so I'm thinking about wetting it on both sides/steaming before I try bending them again. If that doesn't seem to work well, I'm tempted to say down some glass on one or both sides as a couple of you have mentioned. Thanks again for your help! I will post pics again soon! Garland in VA
  2. Yup, the ply cracked on two of the four folded "corners". Any suggestions? I can unstitch and lay flat still. I was thinking about either laying flat and reinforcing with glass then fold again or trying to fix with the panels in their current position. Any help appreciated. For future applications, can these panels be steamed to make them more limber??? Thanks, Garland in VA
  3. Gordy, I'm building a Flyfisher now. Did you glass yours? I'm thinking about glassing the outside or perhaps just the bottom to give some abrasion resistance around the ramp and the beach. Any surprises pop up during your build? thanks in advance, Garland Hanson Midlothian, VA
  4. Tom, If you are interested in boat storage in Poquoson, VA, PM me. We have private land there a short walk from a nice, public ramp and may be able to help you. Google Poquoson. It is a short drive from Hampton, Norfolk and Virginia with good access to the lower Chesapeake. Good luck, Garland in VA
  5. Bill, I had hoped to go to this event for the same reason but I will be participating in the Florida 120 race, out of Pensacola. I had hoped to see some Core Sounds there but there are none signed up as of this writing... Take some photos if you see any at Okume! I do have the June 17-19 Antique & Classic Boat Festival on my calendar. That event is held in St. Michaels, MD at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. thanks, Garland in VA
  6. Folks, I became interested in the Core Sound series after learning about the Texas 200 and similar events. I plan to build one as soon as I can get my garage cleaned out and sell off other hobby clutter I'm not using anymore. I will be sailing primarily on central Virginia lakes and the Chesapeake Bay. I've sailed one-design dingys and Hobies most of my life but am now ready to settle down into a nice, comfortable boat that can easily accomodate two couples. Until recently, I was accessing a single web page that had links to perhaps 10 or more Core Sound build blogs. Now I can't seem to find it! Does anyone know where this page is? It is interesting to see how people build different mods and rig their boats. As a build warm-up for the Core Sound, I just recieved my Flyfisher plans and should begin it in a few weeks. I have a heavy, sit-on-top, plastic kayak that I enjoy fishing from but am getting tired of the 70+ lb weight! I'm looking forward to wowing the crowd with a lightweight, custom homebuilt! I'm looking forward to participating with the group! Garland
  7. Bill, I'm almost in the same position as you! I'm from the lower end of the Chesapeake in Poquoson, VA and also hope to ply the bay in much the same way. I haven't even built my boat yet and I'm planning trip from the lower bay up to the mouth of the Susquehanna! I'm also leaning towards one of the CS series; probably the 17 because of the kit availability. I've been sailing all my life but have never attempted boat-building. I look at this project as another opportunity to expand my horizons and BUY TOOLS!!! I just received the B&B Flyfisher plans in the mail and am going to warm up with this neat little project first. Good luck with your CS! Garland in VA
  8. I recently saw the "jam-style" clamps demoed at the Jamestown Settlement in VA. They came over with the colonists from England in 1607!!! A proven tool! Garland
  9. I'm a newbie from Virginia about to build a Flyfisher as a warm up for one of the Core Sound series! Looking forward to networking with the group!
