FYI- Lee Valley tools has router bits for birdsmouth joints (6,8,12,or16 sided). I don't know if they are easier than setting up a table saw, but thought I would pass the info on. Let me know if they work. Here (i hope this works) is the link. Has anyone put a 20-25 hp motor on a CS for use as a power launch? If the BR could do 30mph, could the CS? How about handling? I'm not talking about water skiing or anything, but rather bayou cruising/fishing. I guess the trailer would have to extend far enough under the hull to support the heavier motor.

Phil Bolger's book 100 Small Boat Rigs offers pros and cons about different sail combinations on the cat-ketch. I don't have a copy in front of me, but it might have some info for you.

If anyone is interested in experimenting with lug sails, Marine Concepts (makers of the cat ketch Sea Pearl 21) is having a "yard sale" and offering a set of Sea Pearl lug sails with wood booms for $200. I think the sail area is a little bigger than the CS17. I think it's about 135 sqft, but I'm not positive, nor do I know the size difference of the mizzen and main. I don't know how hard it would be change over from the sprit booms or if it would require different masts, rigging, etc., but thought I'd mention it to the group.
