MDO for frames ?

Saw a post somewhere about mdo being used in place of baltic birch , just wandered if this is a good idea , being in the sign business I have access to it , thanks

I asked this same question on the Yost Builders Yahoo Group awhile back. The consensus was that the MDO would work fine for the frames. I know that it stood up well to constant exposure when I used it as a gear box on a camping trailer. It may be slightly heavier than some other types, which is probably due to all the internal voids being filled (a good thing). But the total weight of the frames is pretty small anyway so a little extra there would not be a big deal. I have marine ply available at a good price so I haven't needed to try MDO yet but as for durability, it should work well.

MDO is simply paper faced fir plywood.  It is no where near as structural as Baltic Birch.  It has voids and less layers than Baltic Birch, just like Fir AB ply.  It is also made from Fir, and not Baltic Birch.  For frames it is garbage.  Your labor deserves better.

Thanks for the input , I think baltic birch is also available locally , think I'll stick with a known product , just the start of what may be a number of questions when I start this project .
