sscoville Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 I'm thinking of using Davis style oarlocks on my BRS. Does anyone see this as a problem - is it likely to interfere with the sheets? Quote
Hirilonde Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 On a boat from my way past we used Davis oarlocks. The bottom end of the oarlock had a hole in it. To it was attached about 3' - 4' of light chain and a toggle on the end. When not rowing you pulled the oarlocks out of the socket and let them hang. This is safer as well as less to snag lines on. I would consider this method again. For my tender I use round oarlocks. This is for the obvious reason of not losing them. If something can be dropped over board I know how. Quote
Guest wwbaginski Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 I googled them and found here: http://www.duckworksbbs.com/hardware/oarlocks/sd580310/index.htm Sheets should be not a problem. But thete are 2 other ones which can appear: 1. they are ok on a rowboat where constant position of a crew is on the centerline. Or, on a heavy sailboat. On our lightweight dinghies, where you use to move all the time along and across the boat looking for the right trim and weight balance , you can hit them with your back when folded inside. 2. they require some thickness to be screwed, and they need a wider (2 1/4 ") gunwale if you want to be able to adjust their position. After a year, I'm still not decided yet where to choose proper rowing positions on my BRS17 :? so I mounted rails to move them forth and back. Quote
