Peter HK Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Not sure what you want to know. I certainly haven't sailed both and I suppose not many have. They have many similarities. I suppose the biggest difference is flat bottomed vs v bottom. Having sailed both types and despite all the arguments that a flat bottomed boat when heeled is like a v bottom I would strongly favour a v bottom hull shape. In waves the flattie pounds more and stops more. For an all round sailer the v hull is better. As the size /rigs/ cabin options are similar I'm not sure there many more significant points of difference...perhaps the variable ballast options in the Princess is one. I recently raced against an NIS 26 with an experienced skipper and the performance (in light airs) was less than inspiring. I was on my brother's Bolger Romp (a very slow 30 footer) and we were both in the last quarter of the fleet. Cheers Peter HK Quote

Seaworthy ? looks like this forum answers whether there is help - ideas - community I live in northern Wi near the big Lake Would like to trailer to the warm in a few years would like as much headroom without causing problems 26 seems as small as I would like to go or as big are there draft choices to be made? orther choices have a big 38 by 36 building at home - not heated tools needed ? Bill I like both boats but there are more differences than flat vs V bottom. I did own plans for the NIS 26 but did not build it. NIS is a sharpie hull with ballast and a centerboard that protrudes well into the interior. The CB intrudes far less into the Princess and its chine beam is greater, giving greater initial stability. Some other differences are that the mast raising system is easier to master short handed on the Princess and the sprit boom rig is easier to handle. They look quite different so that may be a factor. If I were in the market for a boat like either, it would be the Princess. Quote
