The plans say to install the inwales after you go 3d but before filleting and taping.  I am having a little trouble defining the relation of the inwales to the bulkheads.  do the inwales sit on top of the fwd and aft bulkhead?

Thanks

the plans show two different sizes for the Main mast.  It shows 20' 7" on the spar plans page and 22" on the rigging page.  Is the 22' an approximate measurment.  Also there are a  couple of different versions of the sprits.  One has a forked end and the other has hardware for a snotter.  What is the difference?  I realize this question shows my total lack of experience in sailing. I plan on using the sail tracks. does this make a difference?

Thanks

Plus the forked end won't work with sail track. If you use sailtrack, and I HIGHLY suggest you do so, the snotter rigging is a "have to do"

Graham adds strips of wood each side the track in way of the sprit, so the sprit doesn't get against the track- saves both the track and the sprit from damage, rubbing against each other when you are broad off.

Joel,

Regarding mast length:

In any case either someone will chime in with more certain info or give Graham a nd Carla a call and they will set you straight.

Like Ray said, Graham/Carla can give you the definitive design info.  Go with that.

For various reasons, mast lengths seem to have varied a little on other recently-built CS20's;  here's a link to some of that info;  several of us were discussing the mast-length question...

            http://www.messing-about.com/forums/index.php?topic=6484.0

For example, Terry Dunn's CS20 #36 has a slightly taller mizzen mast that allows clearance below the mizzen sail for a bimini top.  The bottom line is you want your sails to be raised "high enough, but not too high".

Another example: on our CS20 #103 which has a tabernacle for the main mast I think we came very close to the design specs on the plan sheets we had...

            mizzen mast:  20' 9.5"

            mizzen sail:    15' 10.5" luff,    7' 11.0" foot,    16' 3.0" leech.

main mast:     20' 2.5"   (mast pivots in tabernacle; otherwise it would have needed to be longer)

            main sail:       17' 6.0"  luff,     9'  0.0"  foot,    18' 4.0" leech.

So on this boat the masts are just slightly longer than the 20' hull.  I like the fact that the masts and hull are about the same length when it comes to towing,   and for storage in our 20' garage...

Thanks for the replies.

I am definantly going with the sail tracks so that settles the sprit design.  From the thread that Paul posted it looks like it is better ere on the tall side of mast length.  I'll call Graham when the time comes to decide on a sail plan and mast length.

Does anyone know anything about these species and if they would work for my dimensional lumber?  I am going to the Sierra in a couple of months and I thought about bring a load of lumber back with me.

Rocky Mountain Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii subsp. glauca), and Mexican Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga lindleyana).

Apache Pine (Pinus engelmannii), Chihuahua Pine (Pinus leiophylla)
