DGentry Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Not sure of the interest here, but I thought I'd post a pic or two of my new build. This one is yet another SOF - a kid's Baidarka. It's a Tom Yost designed "Kidarka" about 11' long, 20" wide and maybe 12 lbs. I spread the build over 3 weeks, but actual work involved about 8 days - though two of those were just painting the PNW native style designs. It's of non-traditional construction with marine ply frames and WRC stringers. No steam bending or lashing involved at all. The skin is 8oz polyester, coated with Zar polyurethane. I built - and decorated - the boat for the 6 yr old son of a friend. I even made a teeny Aleutian paddle to go along with it, but forgot to include it in the pics. Baidarkas, btw, are the Aleutian versions of Greenland kayaks. Pacific vs Atlantic, if you will. Anyway, here are some pics. Questions and comments welcome, of course! Dave Gentry Quote
