Doug Cameron Posted February 15, 2008 Posted February 15, 2008 I had the first sail today. As Tom had warned, I had not trued up one of the mast track connections to perfection, so the mizzen had to be double reefed. Still, it is a responsive and quickly accelerating boat. I have one question about reefing. If the wind is up, threading the line to the block on the sheet might be a problem with a flogging sail. What about putting little loops of line on each clew grommet and using a light snap ring or such device to attack the block> What do you do? Quote
Doug Cameron Posted February 16, 2008 Author Posted February 16, 2008 Hi Ray I'm talking about the clew rather than the tack (where the S hook is attached). I wasn't thinking of rethreading a block. Graham drew a short piece of line attaching the block that runs on the sheet to what I thought was the clew grommet. Thus my rigging that short piece of line to the clew grommet, resulting in the need to move it as well as the aft end of the sprit when reefing. It could mean the aft end of the sprit, and taet should make things easier. By the way, great article in Small Boats! Doug Quote
Ken_Potts Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Hi Doug, I use small fixed-bail snap shackles (800 lb working load) for the main downhaul and the snotters. Using them for quick attachment of the sheets will work just as well. The sheets aren't under as much load as the snotters and downhauls. Quote
