Capn Trey Posted February 24, 2003 Posted February 24, 2003 It was a great day for sailing today. I launched at Bayou Heron at 8 AM with the temperature around 50 degrees, under clear blue skies. With a 10-knot wind from the northeast, it was a quick sail along the two miles of bayou to the bay. I sailed southwest across middle bay to the North Rigolets Island where I anchored and went ashore to explore a shell mound called Devils Island. Not really an island but a mound of oyster shells on the southeast tip of North Rigolets Island. Basically it is an ancient Native American Garbage pile built up over many generations of harvesting oysters and discarding the shells at a favorite oyster reef. It's too cold to sail here today and on days like this it's nice to hear such tales from our friends in the south. BTW, we do see bald eagles quite often. Not to many oysters inland and once in a while a bear. Now elk on the other hand... well I saw a large heard day before yesterday and the size of those bulls is very impressive. Quote
Craig Posted February 24, 2003 Posted February 24, 2003 Ya Trey it was a great day for sailing...... And I had to spend it doing flight test at Duke. Still it was a nice day to fly and we got a lot of work done. Post the photos please if they turn out. I'd love to see them. As I went into Duke yesterday morning there were 4 young does up on the road. Coming out toward evening, there were 4 turkeys in the powerline slash that were as big as the deer. Quote
