CS pictures

I was recently contacted by someone wanting to see pictures of a CS20. I realized the forum has been all about building, and not so much activity of recent about sailing. So here is my humble contribution.

These pictures are not about how to build or rig your boat. They are simply about the pure joy of sailing.

Nice, Brent! Would you mind explaining the rig (block & line) on your mizzen sprit in the top photo? I can't figure out what it's for.

That is the mizzen sheet running to a block at the base of the mizzen

Looks to me like:

1. There is not all that much wind....based on the chop on the water.

2. She is hauling ....based on the degree of heel and spray flying.

Unless you somehow messed up, the amount of heel is surprising to me based on the amount of chop on the water....or rather lack thereof.

And lastly......

3. That is a nice looking boat!

I see shine or sun reflection off the starboard bow wave white tops in this shot. The wind seems to be about 1:30 or 2 oclock off the bow.

The boat is sailing the vortex where the nearby hills channel the wind into a narrow slot giving higher local wind speed than the average for the day. This sweet spot is maybe a dozen acres of open water, and on a pleasant spring day the boat can be made to plane back and forth across the vortex on a close reach. The wind is probably 50-60 degrees off the starboard bow - with much variation in direction. The windward shore line is not far away, which keeps the chop down.

I lighten up the picture - which shows the glare coming from off the starboard bow is a motor boat scooting across the lake.
