Barry Pyeatt Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Doc A, You're right of course, most all of these will perform better if they are loaded to keep the bow down in the water. Something that isn't a normal situation for most of them. I think if you were to take a survey of owners that have had some time in their Weekenders, you will find that most all of them agree it performs better with the bow down and handles easier. There is a significant change in mast rake of course as you load the boat. Keep the bow down and weather helm decreases significantly, the boat is working better with its chines in the water and of course the boom tends to be flatter relative to the surface of the water. All of this is a compromise. But we can learn how to optimize for just about any outing with time and patience. Tuning a rig is a lot of fun for me. And very satisfying when even small changes make a difference that is noticeable. Oyster, I haunt a whole lot of places for bargains on wood. We just don't have a lot of the species out here that are native to the Eastern Seaboard and the Southeastern Gulf states. But once in a while some nice stuff shows up in very unusual places. I go to demolition sites frequently, especially of older buildings and try to see if I can remove even a lot of things that the normal resellers are not interested in particularly. Also a number of lumber yards and mills too. Amazing what is there if you are willing to crawl around and yes, ask questions. Never hurts and worst they will generally do is say No. But if you don't ask you won't ever get the things others would pass up. Quote
