adla Posted February 20, 2006 Author Posted February 20, 2006 fair enough question Noel --- i am getting ready to repaint the topside/deck and stuff and re-varnish all the mahogany with highgloss spar varnish --- the turnbuckles and stay hardware bang up against the wood and the deck, even when i am careful...the theory with the socks is that they will look cute and protect the deck and rubrail...but mostly look cute (i am such a girl) ignore the filthy deck (it rained yesterday) etc. maybe this will help visualize their purpose: i ironed them and took a photo - a. adla Posted February 20, 2006 Author Posted February 20, 2006 deadeyes look great - it would be hard to want to cover them. i saw some regular canvas stay socks on one of the sailmaking sites...they wanted 17 dollars a piece and they wouldn't have been made to fit. I made all five staysocks including the stars and everything for about 11 dollars. they have velcro all the way down and can be opened to tighten or loosen the turnbuckles...and the front staysock has stars on both sides. I used a heavy navy canvas and doubled it for good measure.... now i need little bags to hole the extra line and keep it out of the way....i am beginning to like the sewing machine as much as the bandsaw! a.
