I have been thinking of building louvered doors instead of the drop boards.

But I thought I would ask what you all think about it.

I like the looks of the doors better. I am sure there are advantages to both, along with disadvantages.

If you all could help me sort them out it would be appreciated.

I have seen these in Crusing World a few years back....I think. There was a design in one of my books somewhere too. I will take a look around. It is something to do on my big boat as well.

Louverd doors I think would look great. Leave the louvers flush on the backside of each door to screen. Then install also, three L channels on the backside of each. Making a U shape, so that you can have "drop in boards". Install the bottom channel so it drains out through the bottom openning of the lower louver. Also, install a hasp at the outer top so when in need they can be locked together. Creating the same affect as drop down boards.

Dunno much, but I'm guessing a separate solid set would be just as easy (or easier) to make, no more difficult to store, and have fewer places to leak through. The screening is a good idea, though.
