BJ Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 Hello everyone Well what a day we had yesterday. The launch of the d'Louise went off without a hitch. She sailed perfectly and effortlessly. We had 10 to 12 mile an hour winds. I couldn't have ask for a better day.If anyone is thinking of building a vacationer think no more just start building. She's more then I ever imagined she was. My father is dying of cancer and has been anxiosly waiting for this day. I was able to take him for a ride. What a great time he had and he couldn't stop talking about it. Guest Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 I took a look at your photo file, and really enjoyed it. I know you will enjoy the boat, knowing that your father was able to enjoy the thrill with you. Its hard not to feel emotional on launch day, just by seeing the boat project come to a successful conclusion. Quote

Barry Pyeatt Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 BJ, I just went thru your photos, a great first day from everything I could see. Looks like you had plenty of shore help and on the boat crew. Good experience and it sure looks like you all had a good time. Thanks for sharing that with us. I understand how important this was for you and your Dad. My father was suffering from cancer as I started my project as well. He took a real interest in it and spent as much time as he could with me in the shop as I was working on it. I think since we had built my first boat together when I was 9 this had some real special meaning for both of us. He couldn't physically help much but he was truly interested and offered a lot of good comments and benefit of his experience to add to the project. But mostly support and a feeling that he had something to look forward to each time he came over. He passed away after it had the top rails on it and the main structure completed and he could see how it would look. I would have given almost anything for him to have been able to go out with me on it and experience that for us both. But there are a lot of memories going into my boat that will take him along. A part of him is truly going to be a part of the "Spirit Wind" as I finish it up and have my family enjoy it with me. I'm sure that it meant a lot to your father as well.
