Patriotic sail tarps

Only thing I would look for in addition would be UV Treated. That makes quite a difference in how long they will last. Their white poly tarps are UV treated. They are farily heavy at 6oz. so they could be good in a place where you need to work in medium to high wind conditions.

Colors fade rather quickly in poly tarps so you might want to think about that. It could be a positive or a negative depending upon your viewpoint. :roll:

Could be fun on a lateen sail rig if the stripes are wide enough.

If you are looking for white, they are a bit more expensive than several other places online for a 6 oz. 10X20 @ "sale" price of $29.95. Some of the others are in the $20-24. range.

But this is the only place I've seen the Patriotic Poly Tarp.

Hey, I noticed they have clear tarps. I wonder how that stuff would be for a jib or genoa.

Or how about a camouflage tarp. Then you could be a stealth sailor.

Concerning - That does look like the French flag - ouch! If I turned it upside down would I be making a symbolic statement? I was actually after the red white and blue effect. How about this link?

I had better confess on the next question of concern on using the US flag for sails. My intent is genuine - having been in the military though, I would be concerned using the flag or cutting thereon. It says 600D Polyester w/ high durability (whatever that means )

I think the rule is you can't use an actual flag to make something out of (like a shirt, sail, etc.) But you can use red white and blue bunting to honor the country's colors.

Alexander Gudchinsky did one of the best jobs I've seen with his Amphora "Swimmer":

I've seen sails that do this also ... a blue jib with white stars and a sail with red stripes. Sounds hokey, but it actually looked pretty good.

If you turned it sideways it could be the Netherlands or the former Yugoslavia.

-I think I'll just stick to flying the U.S. Flag off the gaff. I may eventually buy the U.S. Ensign, but I have no reason to right now with a perfectly fine flag on the boat already.
