Damage Controlman Third Nathan Bruckenthal, 25, whose father is the Northport, L.I., police chief, was the first Coast Guardsman killed in action since the Vietnam War.

This is a pretty good read, as it shows how far we have really come in the Service. The CG has served in every major wartime conflict.

Hmmmm, well I suppose Coasties are real Sailors too.

Just kidding from a DEEP water sailor. Coasties need really tough stomachs for that shallow water work....a lot rougher than out at sea.

The Coast Guard has important, often dangerous work to do and I have always appreciated them for that.
