Only a few small details remain before she's ready for christening! Up to this point, I had been calling her "Patriot". But after much soul searching I have decided to christen this boat Miss B after my wife. Not surprisingly, the process of deciding a name has taken longer than the process of selecting the design! Now to re-assure your superstitions, my boat has not ever been christened with any other name, has never been in the water, has never had a name painted on her, I'm only now making her logbook, and I've been careful to erase references to "that other name" from any other media. If the rest of you "old salts" think it necessary, I'll also perform a de-naming ritual before the christening. As of now the christening ceremony and party is planned for late April 2005 on Atwood Lake here in NE Ohio. You may all consider this an invitation to attend.

Thanks for posting this!! I've already planned my family's annual re-union on the Outer Banks (OBX) for early June 2005. Now we have this event to look forward to in 2006! It's a little further south than where we normally stay (Hatteras Island), but certainly close enough for a side trip! Your certainly right, the sounds behind the OBX provide excellent sheltered shoal waters for boats such as ours. I can't wait to take Miss B out on Pamlico Sound next June. Just 193 days and counting until we "go back home" on June 3 2005!!

I'm away from home on a business trip in Florida. So I haven't had much chance to check in here or on the BYYB board. I'll put a brief summary below. Thanks for your help again Dave! I can't tell you how surprised I was when I saw your link to Glen-L. I spent countless hours going through all their plans for the perfect big boat for my family. I settled on the Fancy Free even before I layed the keel for my Skipjack. It sure is a small world. I would have never thought that Glen-L would be a source for info on how to rig my Skipjack! Thanks for the knott advice too! -Steve

Thanks Dave! This is the last hang up I have with my boat. The rigging is not my strong point. If I understand you right, a block should be forward of the cleat but not so far forward as to keep the jib too constrained. Does anyone have a good picture or diagram of this arrangement? A picture is worth a thousand words? Thanks again, -Steve

Well Done Joe!! Jim, Sorry I wont be able to make it to Pymatuning. I still have a couple weeks to go on Patriot. Looking forward to a July 4 launching at Atwood Lake. 8) Mike, I broadcast about a hundred copies of our press release to all kinds of newspapers, magazines (including Family Circle!), and websites. I'm nearing completion on my gaff rigged Stevenson Skipjack. I want to rig the jib loose footed with the traditional 2 sheet rig (like yours on Aslan, Frank). Should I just run each sheet straight back to a cam cleat, or should I use a block as well for improved purchase?
