Burgee mount help.

Any good ideas where to mount the burgee? The Admiral is working on making a Jolly Roger burgee and we're now wondering where is the best spot for it.

Some ideas/help would be appreciated.

I finally ended up mounting mine to the top of one of the aft shrouds. It is out of the way but still visible. Of course you have to remember to put it in place 'prior' to stepping the mast.

If memory serves correctly, the burgee flys from the mast-head and the ensign flys from the end of the gaff. Of course finding a "proper" red ensign is quite a challenge - I make do with the Ontario provincial flag with the regular Canadian flag flying above it.

True, and true again, though I had a hard time of finding the space to attach them in the 'proper' location(s). I improvised instead. ;)

I would fly it on the leech of the mains'l on a flag halyard with a block on the peak of the gaff. This would be where one flys the US Ensign but the principle of flying a Jolly Roger might null and void any national flag and would be appropriate in its place (particularly if it is rectangular). If you want to fly it as a courtesy flag use the starboard shroud. If it is triangular or split-tailed in shape then fly it from the top of the mast.

Thanks guys for your help! Barb is making a burgee about 4-5' long and it will be the split tail kind. I guess the proper way to fly this is at the head of the mast then.
