Everyone loves to show off their boat and I am no exception. Many years ago I bought the ugliest boat you have ever seen. My wife thought I had lost my mind and I actually wondered if I had made a big mistake too.

Makin' Waves turned out to be a very cherished boat that I doubt I will ever part with.

I wrote a story about the purchase of my ugly duckling several years ago. I put it on my web site a while back. It needs some editing but being so involved in building our new home I won't be able to work on it for a while. So please overlook the typos.

I have always had a soft spot for that type of boat too. My dad had a lapstrake inboard very similar to yours, but I believe it was a Lyman (sp?). We had a good time in that boat, but graduated to a larger boat after about a year.

Unfortunately, I have never had enough money when I came across one or two of these in the past. Now that I might have the money, I haven't seen one for the "right price." I have always dreamed of finding one of the old mahogoney Chris Craft boats that were designed to look like the Gar Wood boats. In the meantime, I openly admire anyone who has been able to make one of the old girls look good and run well.

Thanks Steve. This is one boat I will never regret buying. I have a sprung plank at the moment. Hopefully in about 3-4 months our house will be finished and I will have a large shop to work in. First none house project is to get the boat repaired and repainted.

As for Lyman's, they are beautiful boats. I hate to admit it but their a bit better looking than the Sea Skiffs. They used narrower planks and that, to me, makes a better looking boat.

If you serious about one check out Lyman Boat pages. This fellow has a brokerage for Lyman's and just about everything you could want or need to repair one. I watch the classifieds. I wouldn't get rid of mine but I would love to have a 24 footer with twin engines. The extra room and power would be really nice. In the summer I often have a boat load out tubing and skiing.

First I am going to build the Core Sound 20. I sold my sailboat and I really am missing sailing. Thats this winters project. Assuming I ever finish building this house!

I got into this round of boat building with the Spindrift 10N. I had build three boats during my life, but this was the first "stitch & glue." I'm sold on the process now.

From what I see on this forum and the B & B Forum, the Core Sound boats are a good choice. Lots of fun to build and lots of fun to sail. Maybe I'll try one in the future in my "retirement."

We have a 40' Beneteau in Point Clear, Alabama and the Spindrift is going to be a tender for "Day's Dream" when we move down there. In the meantime, it will be a way for me to feed the sailing habit while in Nebraska. I doubt I need another boat right now. :cry:
