  1. We had a great time! Sorry you missed it but there will be others soon. We didn't get a lot of sailing in this time because of all the other activities going on. The kids had a great time making boats and learning to tie knots. Keep an eye on the byyb.org site for future events in the area. Keith
  2. I have a '72 evinrude 6hp on mine. It's a standard shaft with a lifting bracket. It pushes me along just fine at about 1/2 throttle and the gas usage is low. I use about 3 gallons a year with that motor. I also have an old Seagull 5hp long shaft that I use sometimes. It looks good on the boat but it uses a lot of gas and makes a lot of noise. The long shaft isn't really necessary on these boats with the lift bracket. I would stay away from electrics unless you have lots of batteries and don't need to get back in from a long way against the wind or tides. Keith
  3. It would be great if you could join us. We'll be showing up around the 18th and staying through Sunday. There will be several folks with and without boats so don't worry if you show up boatless, we'll get you on a boat for a sail. We have a CS 17 builder in our group but he'll probably be sailing his hunter 20 that weekend. I hope to see you there. Keith
  4. I just wanted to let you all know that we are having a messabout on Lake Hartwell GA on the weekend of June 21st. It's going to be at Hart State Park and we are planning a huge event with model boats for the kids to build, a cardboard boat race in which kids will build and design their own boats then take them to the water and climb aboard for a race. There will also be knot tying classes, a pirate battle, and maybe even a country/rock band playing in the park for us. Everyone is welcome to join us and we hope that some of you locals will show up and go boating with us. For more info check out the SE Fleet forum at byyb.org Keith
  5. Congrats on your move Smollie, now that your in the SE maybe you can join us for a messabout. The BYYB has a pretty active fleet of stevenson boats in the south. We are planning a big messabout for the Summer Sailstice on June 21st at Hart State Park in GA. We'd love to have you attend, bring your boat if it's ready or just come up and sail aboard with someone else. Keith
  6. Hey Scott, this could be the answer to all your problems, then again it could be a problem all its own. It sure would look good on the boat though
  7. I added 4 inches to my cabin sides and I'm happy with it. It looks right and it gives some headroom below. I still crack my head on the rafters now and then. You may give thought to squaring off the front of the cabin as well. Heres a couple of shots inside and out to see what I did Keith
  8. Jeff it will be great to see you again this year. We plan on cooking BBQ Saturday night so make plans to eat with us. I'll be there with my Vacationer on Thursday so if you get a chance you might want to drop by and take a sail with me. Thanks Brian for posting the rescheduled date, my server went down last night and I couldn't post here or on trailersailor which is where I'm off to now Keith
  9. I used to sail down around St Simons area on my 35' Whittholz Departure ketch. It's a pretty place to sail but a shallow draft is something you will want to have. There are plenty of places to see and some amazing islands to visit between Savannah and St Simons. Almost complete solitude on uninhabited island all along the ICW. Closer to Augusta is Strom Thurmond Lake which is 78,000 acres and an average depth of 36 feet. Hartwell is also not too far away which is a great sailing area with clean water and it's not too crowded. About an hour west of you is Oconee which is where I do most of my sailing because it is the closest lake to me. Theres not a lot of other sailboats on that lake however because they won't allow boats with heads or sleeping quarters on it. I have a cabin on my Vacationer and never had any problems with the authorities but they could give me a hassle if the wanted to I suppose. We have a fairly active fleet of Stevensons boats here in the SE from the BYYB, keep a lookout for our messabouts and feel free to join us for a sail. We'll be sailing next weekend on Hartwell and we'll probably put together something for the Summer Sailstice in June. Keith
  10. The BYYB is having a messabout Lake Hartwell GA on April 12th through the 15th. All are welcome to join us. The location is at Hart State Park. We had a great time there last year and it looks like we'll have a pretty good crowd again this year. If you need more info email me at byyb-rc@earthlink.net Keith
  11. I just signed up my father on the site with no problem. The listing was instant and it was easy to do. Just click on the sign up link at the top of the page and follow the instructions. Give your email, and personal info and you shouldn't have a problem. Try it one last time with this link http://www.summersailstice.com/content2.php?id=196&method=add&continentid=1&countryid=93 Keith
  12. Check under boats signed up and you should find me there. There should also be a place for us under events in GA as well but they have been having some problems with the site. Check out this page that they set up about our gathering http://www.summersailstice.com/content2.php?id=277 I just checked for your boat and it's not listed yet. Keith
  13. We have added an event to the summer sailstice messabout. We are going to have a boat show for the camp guest and the small town of Hartwell. We would love to have your boat tied along with ours up for folks to enjoy and learn about. Please contact me if you plan to attend, and make reservations for camping at Hart State Park in GA Keith
  14. I have one, though it hasn't had a lot of use it seems to work just fine. It comes with rechargable batteries and you can charge it with 12v or 110v. It also has a mounting bracket to attach to your bulkhead. Not a bad deal for the money. Keith
  15. try it again, if it doesn't work email me at byyb-rc@earthlink.com and I'll see what I can do Keith
