  1. hi all and Graham first time builder here building an S11N, i've just finished dry fitting the gunwales (solid 1x2 stock, I used screws all around about a every foot or so). I was careful in working only one foot at a time every other side. I placed a string from the bow to the transom following the centerline and measured the distance from one side of the nesting bulkhead to the other. the starboard side was wider by around 7mm. Is this okay? if not, what can I do to remedy it? also, it says in the plans to: "remove one side and the back end of the other side" how far the on the back of the other side? do i re-attach the other side after I've glued the one side or do I work alternately like i did when dry fitting it? once the glue is dry on one side and I remove the other gunwale to put glue on it, will this cause the hull to twist? sorry for the long winded question. cheers/roy
  2. Attached is a picture of a part of the sheet #1 for an 11' nesting spindrift, can anyone tell me what the 3/16 is a measurement of? [/img]
  3. Hi all! A friend volunteered to lend me his router to help build a Spindrift dinghy. Quite honestly, i've never used one before. and I was wondering if any of you can give advice on how usefull it would be for the task at hand. What type of bits should I use? and for doing what? I know this might sound like a dumb question to most of you but... i'm really in the dark here guys. help! cheers/roy
  4. This would be my first boat. I guess it would primarily be used for "mucking about". but my ultimate objective is to build something bigger. a 20 to 25' camp cruiser that I can use for island hopping to any of the Philippines 7000+ islands I'm planning to build a dinghy first to hone my boat building and sailing skills. I think the S11N is perfect as it's just the right size to take my family out on and fits nicely inside an AUV (Asian Utility Vehicle) when nested.
  5. Thanks for the warm welcome Oyster. we do have plentiful supply of very nice hardwoods here and i'm looking forward to finishing a boat with some narra. my primary concern is the metal and plastic parts that that I know are not available here, like gudgeons, pulley blocks etc.. can those things be easily fabricated? or are there alternatives available from the nearest home depot or hardware store? Thanks for visiting my website btw.
  6. Hi there, I'm planning to build an S11N in the Philippines. however, boat building and recreational sailing is not really that popular here. and finding the right materials for building boats can be very difficult. but I was able to find sources of marine epoxy, fiber glass cloth, epoxy resin and marine grade plywood here is very cheap. I'd like to know what other materials would I need to build a proper Spindrift, deck equipment etc... and where can I source them. before I commit to buying the plans. I don't mind importing some stuff overseas, but i'd like to be able to source or fabricate most of what I need locally, as shipping can be very expensive (tight budget). This would be my first time to build anything, and i've never sailed before, just to let you know what my perspective is. Thanks for any help. Cheers, Roy E.
