Search for the 'mast materials' thread. Supposedly you can use second hand carbon fibre OK dinghy masts for the CS17 in Australia?

Can you please post some photos of the Core Sound 20, Mk 2. There is little available on the Internet. I am interested in the water ballast set up and if the cockpit is self bailing. I have contacted the designer but I haven't yet recieved a reply.

I was looking at this closed thread: http://messing-about.com/forums/topic/6604-capsize-test/ The centre board seems a long way off the water for a swimmer for capsize recovery. Has anybody capsized in deep water and were you able to right it easily? I have vivid memories of five crew in the water, 10km off the coast in a capsized sports boat. None of use could reach the centre board to right her and we were worried about her turning turtle. It took over an hour for her buoyancy tanks to fill with enough water for one of us to be able to grab the centre board. It's not something I want to repeat. Does the design have enough buoyancy fore and aft to not have to worry about sealed side benches, leaving them open in order to lower the capsized centerboard height? Jon Jon

If I plan to camp ashore every night, is the CS big enough for two adults and two kids with camping equipment for a week long trip around the Whitsundays? Or would I be better off with a 20? My preference is a small boat to make it easy to roll up the beach on fenders. The best spots in the Whitsundays are quiet bays away from the yachties in my experience.

I'm thinking of building either a CS17/20 or Bayraider 17 from a kit. I would like to go for a sail with someone to work out if it's the boat for me before I commit to build. I work on Sydney harbour during the week and live in Canberra on the weekends but am prepared to travel for a test sail. Background is I have raced beach catamarans for last 5 yrs and currently race a Taipan 4.9 solo ( 96kg, 16ft, capable of 18kt). I have beach camped it around the Whitsundays for a week a few times. I want a boat I can explore the coast in with two children under 10, go weekend camping with 2 adults/ 2 children with the occasional week long camping trip. Desirable to be able to have a makeshift trapeze fitted- or my son will be dissappointed. Jon
