I built #68 and have been happyly wandering the Salish sea for the last two years. First time with this rig and really enjoy the way I can balance her and sail into a crowded 'foriegn' harbor without the least anxiety. Time to swing the lead and liesurely select a spot while returning greetings from those at anchor.
The problem is these old bones have trouble moving the solid wood spars when the seas get big an square. So I've decided to try a horizontal, point reef system and outlined a dozen or two experiments to that end. But this must wait until spring as I've great diffaculty moving a 3D blow onto a sketch pad in a cozy study.
At this time I need to decide what to tell the sailmaker. How much to reef each sail to reduce ~1/3 /reef while maintaining the CE total position. Simple enuf, yes? Useing the numbers on sail plan an simple geometric analysis I find the CE-t 22.2" fwd of centerline miz mast at thwart and reefs of miz23"/main37" ~maintain CE-t . Having reason to think this is wrong I looked again at sail plan to find it not agreeable with this 2D analysis. So I'm curious what you folks found and, maybe, where I got off course.
Also very acceptive of empirical evidence. If your reefing schedule maintains the balance I'd appreciate your advise.
Thanks
