  1. My situation is frustrating, because I will have to wait until next year to start construction. The advantage I will have is that I will be able to devote myself to the project full time, and pay someone to help. This said I'm sure that some problems will arise when construction is underway. If that is the case, I'll be quite a long way from internet access. That really is the advantage of having a forum like this full of friendly knowledgeable souls. By the time I leave for the Philippines in December for my workshop search I think I should have most issues clearly resolved, ready for construction in February/March. I'm quite sure that building costs will be quite enviable. thebob
  2. Now I'm really pleased that I asked these questions. It seems that Mat is not suitable a light weight structure, and I've been told why. I'll be researching the diferences in "woven glass fabric and biaxial cloth" so hopefully I will be able to avoid over thick layers and keep the weight sensible. I'm sure that the designs allow for some differences in build quality, I'm sure that Graham's job is complicated by the fact that his designs are sometimes built to less than exacting standards. thebob
  3. Questions like these really show that different people have different requirements and that the B&B forum helps customization but provides a reality check for some of the less well thought out ideas. I had thought about lee boards and many other modifications, but have decided to "trust the designer" where structural/sailing aspects are concerned. CS17 #103 will be built and used before I start modifying. I hope this post doesn
  4. I`m very interested in this design I think it would make a very usefull boat. I think that because of the offset center board fitting a marinised automotive engine as an inboard might be possible. Suzuki minicars have 660cc engines that woud give about 60 hp, although the transmission might be a problem. Shouldn`t need as much balast either, though it might mess up the C of G. The princess looks like it could easily benifit from transom skirts to strech it to 28 feet or so. This would make a great diving platform. If the interior was minimal I think this could be a great daysailer, nice big cockpit. I`d like one of these but the CS17 will come first thebob.
  5. Thanks guys, excellent replys. Looks like I can build wooden birds mouth spars, and maybe upgrade to aluminium at a later date. With sail plans the local upholsterer will be able to stich these up for me. He`s quite adept at unusual jobs. Although I'm based in Japan I have a small beach house in Cebu and get to spend almost half the year on the water. Excitedly waiting for my plans, wonder what my hull# will be. thebob.
  6. Hi guys. I just finished building a D5 from the free plans on www.bateau.com. For my next project I was about to buy the CK17 plans from the same source. I was worried about the seaworthyness of these boats. So I searched the forums and found a post that mentioned the CS17 as an example of the worthyness of these craft. Well now I`ve found B&B my only decision is which Core Sound to build. My only worries are the masts/spars. I will be building in the Philippines so it may be dificult to source Aluminum to the correct spec. How long are these masts? Can I laminate hollow tapered "birdsmouth" masts instead? Do the plans include sail plans? Hope to be persuaded soon, so I can buy the plans and CD. Cheers thebob.
