Thanx Guys For now the club foot stays

Why does the WE have a mast box? I would think that this would be for making it easy to get the mast off and on the boat, but with it having a folding mast, does this become obsolete? Would it be just as easy (easier :? ) to do away with the mast box completely and simply fix the mast to the hull bottom and front bulkhead? Again, I'm no sailor/designer and I'm questioning the wisdom of those who know, I'm just seeing if it is needed, and if not I may be able to get the boat finished (started ) sooner

SeaEagle You should be able to work out the angle like this if you divide the VERTICAL height of your deadwood by the longest side of the deadwood and then take the co-sine of this number you will get the angle that should be added to the 130 degrees. Frank et al. On Aslan you detail that you have gotten rid of the club foot and have gone for the 'more advanced'/'normal' jib sheet setup. Being as advanced as I am at the sailing game (NOT ) I have the following question.... I believe your 'new' setup has two jib sheets running to the cockpit (port and starboard), whereas the old clubfoot setup had the single jib sheet (I think you had it to starboard) reeved through the 2 blocks infront of the cabin (I'm really getting a hang of the new lingo ). So (and finally here's the question...) can you have the best? of both worlds and have a single jib sheet to the 2 blocks in front of the cabin WITHOUT using the clubfoot? I'm sort of hoping that anyone with any sailing experience isn't rolling around on the floor laughing now :oops: if this is one of those really dumb questions. :shock: I was just hoping to get away with a single jib sheet whilst still having a little more? control over the jib

Ahhhh....Frank - you can't get the wood and seaeagle and I can't get the water Seaeagle and I may have some great trees around us, but we're approx 160 miles from the coast We have 3 'local' lakes, the biggest being 4.5 miles long. Ahh well, I'll just have to convince the boss to transfer me to Cairns - the reef would be a lovely place for a Weekender!

Great idea Derek I thought it was wooden beading from the 'far away' shot, and was worried that it would never happen on a curved cabin front, but bondo sounds easy (it all sounds easy so far - I haven't made the first cut yet) I notice that your deck is level? with the hull side - is this by design? In the video they seem to have the hull side above the deck. BUT they also say that to achieve this they don't necessarily have the hull side meeting the hull bottom. I would have thought that the one place you really want to be sure you've got no gaps is below the waterline! Any thoughts on this? Andrew

I've just finished ordering the Keel lumber (the cheap Ash fell through [it had to didn't it]) So I'm getting Oregon. It should be here Friday, then I'm off to wollongong for the ply. Just yell if you need a hand with anything (an extra pair of hands, encouragement, criticism etc.) - it will give me a chance to 'see before I do' I'll drop you more of my details in another private post. Looks great Derek, that's where I'm aiming to be in about 4-6months. Looks like you've got some nice beading around the junction of the cabin and top deck - is this another mod? I don't remember seeing it on the plans, but it really finishes off nicely - I think I might have to add that to my list of things I haven't even started yet! :shock:

Thanx for that Oyster, Does the addition of unhardened resin on the joints add to the curing time? (while the hardener osmosises through it)

Whoa! whats this I hear - epoxied scarf joints failing! I was looking at Phil's 'Aloha' and was planning on scarfing the hull bottom and sides in the same way he did. Does this mean that this is not a good idea anymore? Here in Canberra we have cold winters (below freezing) and hot dry summers (over 100 Degrees F) - will my hull sides split? - This is the first I've heard of epoxy failing. Here I was thinking that it was fantastic for just about any application!!! Is anyone else having the same troubles???

Sounds great I'm still interested in 'doing stuff' from here (even though I'm rooly new to this), and sea eagle lives 2 suburbs away - whats the chance of that in a land this big! It would be unreal to see a flotilla (2, 3, 5) of WEs sailing in the same area and to be able to share some sailing stories with the others Lets do it!

Thanx Tyler I've been through the Glen-L chapter a couple of times - it's very US but I do have some good? news. I have found some ASH locally for approx AU$60 for all three layers or Jarrah for au$700. I kid you not. I e-mailed Simon about this price (he used smaller Jarrah pieces) and he reckons he didn't spend much over au$70. Guess the ASH could be a winner

I don't mind the stalking...as long as you can answer all the following questions the plans call for a hardwood for the keel, but the Materials List says softwood - now I'm fairly certain its hardwood thats required - is that the same for the rudder and stem layers?

Thanx I hail from Canberra in Australia I ‘found’ the StevProj website by accident when I was looking into plywood for building an aeroplane (I’ve never built much, does anyone remember Homer Simpson’s spice rack – that’s me). I figured that if something fails on a plane I’m done for – but on a boat, with less ‘regulations’ to follow HEY I can swim. So from then on it was just a question of which boat. 3 things decided me on the weekender 1) finding the StevProj site as the first boat site (I call it fate) 2) The lines of the boat – very sexy in a classic sort of way 3) Frank Hagans site (Thanx Frank) – this site surely cemented the idea in my head that I could achieve what no-one else in my family has even dreamed of and I could do it just for ME 4) Cost I realise this is more than 3 (Monty Pythons Spanish inquisition scene goes in here) but I guess deep down inside number 4 is a consideration for us all! And again I must thank Frank and all you ‘old salts’, I’ve been browsing the forum for about 2 months – learning from the ‘pros’ and finally thought – bugger it, its time I let them know there’s another wannabe Capt’n Hook out there. So here I am
