You could squirt polyurethane glue in the gaps which will expand to fill all openings well even with clamping afterward. For the screws grinding with a di-grinder would work well to get rid of the excess screw points.

I would agree that the box helps to tie all the parts around it together. It also seems to strengthen and support the top deck. I wouldn't leave it out of the construction.

To give you an idea. I almost did the whole boat with a 5lb container of plastic resin glue. I would get 2 of those buckets since it cost the same as getting one 5lb and two 1lb containers that you'll probably need.

I used a polyurethane based enamel that is made by gliden for $16 a gallon. You can get it at places like Home cheapo or lows. It covers nicely and can be done in 2 coats over resin sealed wood or 3 with plain dry wood. It finished to a nice gloss and is color fast wet, dry, hot or cold so far as i've experienced. It is very durable because it is made for painting on decks and foot traffic areas.

I used 3/4" plywood for my keel. It is very strong from my experience rolling the boat and movving it onto the trailer. You can also make the but joints in the layers farther apart from the original plans call for, which in my mind feels much stronger. I got the idea from another weekender builders website that had done the same as well as building with thicker ply all around. I only made the hull sides a little thicker with 3/8" ply instead of 1/4". I noticed it is only really about 1/16" thicker but it seems to be more ridged when done. There is a slight weight consideration but I didn't glass the whole boat just the part from the lower rub rail down.

I just read an article a www.slashdot.com about this and it happened to my wife as well. It seems to me as well that it is a matter of your email address being on a mass mailing that does contain the virus and the automated software just replys and mass emails to everyone on the list. I Was wondering if anyone has a fix for the peak halyard setup. According to the plans the point at the mast were the peak halyard hooks to the gaff via two pulleys on the same eyebolt. At this point I keep getting a jam up when the two pulleys start touching each other under tension. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks for the insights. I think I may do a combing like one I've saw on some weekenders that has a flat face plate and some small side strips running foward into the plates after I get the boat out on the water, maybe in the off season.

I am thinking about leaving off the splash combings or doing them later. Is there a faster way to do them or should I hold off till later?

I used a chevy s-10 with a bed cap on it. It is a close fit right now but i need to adjust the boat back a couple inches or take the cap off. As for the bowsprit it appeared as though it would have cleared over the top of the truck cap if I had it on at the time that I had towed it from the place I built it at. The rreal prob I'm having is with the winch, it needs to be up higher to pull the boat on properly. I'm going to try adding some length to the winch bracket with some trailer bunk brackets I picked up.

Hahahahah. Yeah I guess that would help. As it is now I'm putting in about 3-10 hours of work on it a day depending on my schedule. Although taking a few days sick leave sounds attractive after all a bad day of boat building is still better than the best day at work, especially if when you get out on your boat. I'm thinking about using 2.5"emt or 2 & 3/8" fense tubing for the part of the mast above the tabernacle pivot point. I think this sould work ok but don't know for sure. Does anyone have any idea if it will take the loads a weekender will put on it.

I have found that the boat trailer that www.harbourfrieght.com has works for the weekender with a little adjustment. Check them out, sometimes they have it for $279 and free shipping. Only thing is that it needs to be assembled but that only takes a few hours.
