OK Raymond....get your books out lad. I have one for you.

A buddy of mine made a 46 ' catamaran. Rough but cool. A wonderful story goes with this boat.

Anyway, we were wondering what the theoretical max hull speed would be

for a cat with two 38 foot water lines, very little wetted surface and fine narrow entries.

Believe it or not, the crazy fool asked me to design a super simple sail plan for him. HA. Man, did I have fun with that.

Sea trials next weekend hopefully, pictures and story to come.

...so, up for it Beak? None of this plus or minus 5 lbs either....we want the solid facts.

I think its about time we had an update on this one - when you posted it first I was intrigued, but patient. Now I'm intrigued and impatient!

I've had this wild idea for ages of making up a catamaran (or perhaps a tri) by welding 44 gallon drums end to end and then fabricating nose cones for them. Not going to happen very soon, but that was the first thing that occurred to me when I saw this post.

So fill us in on the 'wonderful story' that goes with this boat - the pics and report on the sea trial would be great too.

How's the luthiering buisness? Is it still keeping you out of the water?

With all the forest fires in that part of the world, I was thinking that maybe he got smoked out. Smoke from the big fire on the border should be hanging right over him.

OK you guys....can't a fella hide in peace?

I have shyed away from the board for a while becuase I ain't sailing this season and it is too painful to talk about something you are missing the hell out of.

No fire probs for us....we had a huge one just West of us and the smoke was harsh for a couple of weeks....but the current fires are not where the smoke can get to us right now. It has never been so dry here.....and it is a super dry area normally.

Well, Daves Cat is happening. The sail plan worked out very well. All aspects considered. I have not had a chance to sail on her yet but have had weekly phone calls sorting out details and performance reports.

I have some images and a story, but have to get to work right now. I will finish this up maybe later today.

Well, talk about freaky stuff.

Last night when I last wrote....there were not any fires here. This morning when I woke up, there was.

Now a water bomber is happily cycling between the lake and a mountain about three kilometers from here.....a coupla miles.

It is on the US side of our valley. It was so smokey in our valley today you could barely see across to the mountains at some points. The wind carried the smoke north to us...ash falling all day. It has gotten bigger and bigger. Some excitement.

Last I heard, my Father was headed to Montana to fight the fires there.... he flies one of the little spotter planes to tell the big water dumpers where to dump. But he goes where he is needed.
