Michael Hiester Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Doug, Great job as checkpoint captain in the recent Blackbeard Challenge. After following the adventures of Paul and Alan in their CS20 and Frank and Julie with their CS20MkII in the NC Challenge I was wondering if you though your CS20MkIII, Look Far, would be able to clear the bridges on the Harlow Canal? I read that Dawn Patrol had to unbolt the main tabernacle to gain the necessary clearance. The photos on your blog (that's a great looking boat by the way) seem to show the tabernacle mounted on the deck, which is also raised. So the quick question is how do you feel about your vertical clearance? Especially as it compares to the other CS20s Quote
Doug Cameron Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 This was a high water year (because weeks of NE winds had pushed all of the water south), so the clearance for the bridges was minimal. The i550 had to dismount its tabernacle and heel over to make it. I would have to have measurements to be sure. The 17 will have less height and you can also add water ballast and flood the cockpit by stopping up the drain holes. I'll bet Paul and Alan only had to unbolt the mast from the tabernacle because theirs slopes up toward the stern when lowered. On my Mark 3 the mast rests almost straight back from the tabernacle. I hope this helps. Quote
Michael Hiester Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 Doug, Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't realize it was a mast problem with Dawn Patrol, which makes a lot of sense given the height of her cabin top. I can see how you won't have that issue with the flush deck. Kind of spooky how you knew I was mostly interested in the 17. Hope to meet you at one of the mess abouts. Quote
