Felix Madrid Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Hello! I'm looking to start on my first boatbuilding project, and am thinking of a Spindrift, let's say a 12 so as to compare with the Amanda. How do these two designs differ, if at all, in their ease of building, and do they differ as well in their sailing characteristics? Thanks for the reply! Quote
Hirilonde Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 The Amanda was designed to be very easy to build, especially for group builds where time is a factor. The Spindrift however is not overly difficult for some one with patience and a willingness to ask questions when needed. The Spindrift is definitely faster and probably points a little better. The lines of the 2 boats are quite differernt. The Amanda carries the hard chine all the way to the bow and the Spindrift chine fairs away to a much sweeter shape forward. This makes the Spindrift enter waves more smoothly. If you feel you need an easy build for the first one I suggest the Amanda. If you are up for a bit more challenge from the start I think the Spindrift is a better sailing boat. I don't think you will be disappointed in either boat. Quote
