white vardo

What finish did you you use on the white Vardo in the photo section of your website. I understand that the Zar will abmer in application. This boat looks pretty white.

Dura-Tuff polyurethane. As the name implies it is tough stuff, I am impressed with it and it is water clear. The down side is as the boat ages, gets dirty, wax on sinew stains the skin, wood turns black, ect, it all starts to show through the skin.

I bought a gallon of the Zar ext-ob-poly that I'll go ahead and use. I have good quality spray equipment and would guess maybe 2 coats from one quart. How many coats would you recommend? I'd still like to tint

the poly since this isn't the water clear like the Dura-Tuff. What colors have you tried tinting and with what results?

A lot of people have tinted ZAR. I heard several speak of using artist tints. Honestly don't know exactly what this is. I have a good friend that manages the Paint Department in a building supply and she has always worked with me and tinted ZAR with what ever they have. I did mine in a violet/purple/blue shade and was well pleased with it. Never had any issues with the finish.

Most of the guys are aiming for browns to look like leather skin. I would say stay away from Reds because they will probably end up pink.

I would suggest as you tint it, try it on some scrap, dry it with a hair dryer to see what you have. More coats will darken it some but you never know exactly what your going to have till it is on the boat.
