Took my Daughter out sailing in the CoreSound tday.

That isa first.  She has been very scared of sailing since adolescence.  Hasn't sailed with me for 12 yrs or so.

She spent a few weeks on the Schooner Bowdoin this summer and has been buggin me to take her sailing since.

This morning when I woke up she asked me to take her out sailing today.

I looked at the weather forecast.  16 -20 MPH forecast.  I asked her if she was sure she wanted to go.  Told her it would be wet and wild.

She did.

Given wind forecast I took the battenless sail up.  Quicker to set up and if we are going to reef anyway for her comfort level why bother wearing out the new sails.

Got there and wind was much under forecast.  Had full working sail up.

We saw 7's and 8's  Windspeed in the 10-12 range with gusty mountain lake conditions and shifts and eddies.  I saw a few white knuckle moments as the leeward rail approached the water and Rebekah was glad she brought her  rain jacket as I advised her to.

Not nearly as boisterous as last time I took Josh out and it was a  constant spray of water aboard.  This was where her sitting forward acted as a good spray deflector.

Took some time heaving to with main run free and mizzen cracked off a bit.  In steady wind it would set about 30 degree off wind steady with slick setting to windward and GPS MEasuring 0.5 knt set to leeward.

In gusts, boat would end up tacking and setting on other side and then retacking in another gust  In any event I was either nose off, or tacking to other nose off and drifitng back slowly.  Didn't have to tend to rudder or anything else.  So long as good sea room to leeward I could tend to other things.

Good on ya! Time stands still for no one, and the time goes by so fast. Our kids are grown, and there never seems to be enough time with the Grandchildren. Enjoy every minute, and be greedy, ask for more.
