Hey Ray (and other rowers of CS17s)

What is the maximum length oar I can stow under the foredeck of a CS17? I have the thru-the-bulkhead PVC tubes which run all the way to the bow. The oars I have are 9'9" and the measurement from aft end of CB trunk to fwd end of PVC tube is 8'8". I want cut the oars in the middle and scarf back together. If I make them 8'8", will it be possible to maneuver them into place without too much difficulty?

Green Heron had the aft deck and I trimmed my 9' oars down a couple of inches so that the blades would be flush with the trunk. The blades were spoon shaped and I had no trouble clearing the aft deck with the spoons up.

I am leaving for Maine at 5:30 tomorrow. I will see you on Thursday.

I hang 9' oars on some brackets under the side decks on my CS 20. I put a line around the oars and brackets to keep them in place while trailering. The brackets are plywood attached to the side deck gussets. I attached 2x4 blocks to the front bulkhead routed to accept the end of the oars.

I don't know if that kind of method would work for a cs17. It might be more fun to come up with a novel method to store 9' 9" oars than to cut them down.

My neighbor was throwing away some old doors so  I am in the process of making some oars out of them. Not a real good idea as the styles are attached to the rails with wood dowels. Leaves some hols in iteresting places. When I finish I can figure out where to store them in addition to my existing oars. It may take another year. Oh well. It is more fun than painting the house.
