Sold my Spindrift 11N

She was a good tender when cruising in my Allied Princess 36 ketch. And since I sold the ketch she was a fun dinghy to sail in the lake. But we were feeling the urge for a larger boat when I noticed a message posted on CSBB (Cruising Sailor Bulletin Board).

Brian was looking for a good tender that was fun to sail but he couldn't find what he wanted. Others recommended that the Spindrift design would fill the bill but Brian doubted that he could get one built at a resonable cost. I posted that I might be persuaded to part with mine.

Brian and Meaghan were excited about that idea from the start. We agreed on reasonable price and found the shipping was high but not out of sight. I had a few repairs I wanted to do before I could sell it. And I had to build a crate that would protect the boat but not add excessive weight. At $3.00 a pound it was expensive to ship across country.

Yep. We are shipping her from Florida to the San Juan Islands in the Pacific Northwest. About as far as you can go in the US excluding Hawaii and Alaska.

Meaghan is very excited about "her" dinghy. Brian is trying to organize a weekly dinghy race in the harbor. I hope they really enjoy her. She is a good little boat.

Hi Garry,

Your website is a great place to get useful information about Spindrift series and I can say that It helped me a lot on the decision of building my own boat. Somehow I feel a little bit sad reading this topic. I know...I'm too sentimental...

The comparison is not fare, but I've built a telescope wich I still own and I can't even think of selling it out. Looking at the sky with an instrument built by your own hands is ten thousand times more pleasant.

I hope to discover soon how is to sail a boat built by my own hands...
