Mike Routley Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Went to the Olympia Wooden Boat show this afternoon. Lots of bigger boats, not many small sail boats. Not to many smaller wooden boats period. There was one bright spot though Capt Jake had his pride and joy there. If you get the chance to make the boat show tomorrow, it is worth the trip just to see Johns boat. Purrrrrrdy!! Got to visit with Capt. Jake and his wife for awhile, I guess I just missed Joel. All in all, a very worthwhile way to spend part of the afternoon 8) Quote

capt jake Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 In Olympia, WA. Once again, it was a big success. 53 boats in the show, rafted three deep at times to accommodate everybody. Greg and Winifred came down from Seattle. He won two awards, I believe it was Best Period Piece and favorite Power. Martha also came down from Port Townsend. She is celebrating her 100th birthday this month! Another beauty! she won favorite Sail boat. Sorry for the poor shot. A shot of my restoration. 1956 Skippercraft 16' plywood runabout. Interesting things happened while I was there. I have researched extensively trying to find out anything about this boat, with no luck. I ran into a fellow from Puyallup who has a boat nearly identical to this one, only his is a 1958. I also met a fellow who worked for Skippercraft from 1954 until the early 60's! Low and behold, he lives right here in Olympia! Ok, toot my own horn....I won best small craft. Quote

Did ya get a little cool yesterday?[/quote']A little cool, yes. The beautiful woodwork was on a boat named 'Chyma'. We got to board her yesterday and it is even more spectacular inside. Of course, I didn't have my camera. :roll: Folks, i have had people say that my bot is 'furniture' grade, but Chyma is, without a doubt, furniture grade. 31 foot Owens that looks better than it did when it rolled out of the showroom in 1960. Everything, and I mean everything has a deep gloss varnish finish on it, counters, floors, cabinets..... Quote
