Designer Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 Yes it is a fairly large lever arm so it is important to fasten it to the boat well and do not skip on the fasteners in the mast step as well. I am not sure if you are building the CS 20 or the CS 17 but the Cs20 has a 5/4" x 12" for the center thwart. For non Americans, that translates to 1" X 11 1/4" finished size. For the CS 17 we use 1 x 12 which finishes at 3/4"x 11 1/4" Quote
Rob Blackburn Posted March 19, 2005 Posted March 19, 2005 The only problem i have had with our boat is the centre thwart. What has happened is that the endgrain of the thwart/mast support has taken up a bit of moisture and this has made it swell. It is bolted and epoxied to the supports which are bolted and epoxied to the sides of the seats but it has lifted about 1mm for about half it's length and put a crack in the epoxy. So my point is... seal the end grain well. Rob Quote
