Trailer size?

Hi all,

I am building a Weekender and I hope to have it on a trailer later this summer. Can anyone tell me the appropriate trailer size? I'll be hauling it with an SUV, so I know I need to worry about the bow sprit not poking through the back window! Other than that I would like to have 14 inch tires. There are some web sites with trailer size but not neccessarily boat size. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Mike, I have a Karavan KB-1250-50 which works very well. It's plenty long and I have a longer than normal bowsprit. See http://www.karavantrailers.net/

If I had it to do again, I'd look harder for a trailer with V-shaped cross bars just to get the boat a little lower. Even so, at the price, the one I have works great.

I'm currently using a Load Rite maybe ~18ft trailer. That replaced a 14' trailer with smaller wheels (but that did make the trip to Cape Cod and back). You probably want to go for something with larger wheels if you could and with the most keel (or hull) coverage. We have an SUV and don't have a problem with the bowspirit. I have taken it off in the past when we are carrying a kayak on the roof, but other than that it's not a problem. Where do you plan on taking the boat? In September I'll be moving to Philadelphia, I'll be attending Drexel University (I even already spoke with the sailing team).

Thanks guys. Nockamixon sounds like a good place to sail. I'm also planning on the top of the Chesapeake, LBI and the Adirondacks. Not all this year but that's the plan.

Your boat looks great Tyler. From the pictures of your launching, I can see how a lower V-shaped crossbars would help decrease the overall height of the boat and trailer as Dave mentioned. Just how tall is that puppy sitting on the trailer?
