Dave, that sounds great. I'm glad to see that a 16-17 ft trailer works. My biggest fear is the bowsprit hitting the back of the Exlporer. Is there much that hangs off the back of the trailer? I'll be driving a couple hundred miles at most. Are the 12 inch tires ok? Bala Cynwd only a few miles from Havertown. Let me know if you're in the neighborhood.

Hi all, I am ready to begin the process of buying a trailer. Is anyone using a Magneta UFB5218HD? Its an 18 foot trailer that you put together yourself. http://www.sportutilitytrailers.com/Magneta/UFB52.htm Pennsylvania is a PIA when it comes to titling home-made trailers :evil: I figured if I buy one new, I should not run into any immediate problems. I am trying to keep the cost under $700 or so. And it will also do double duty for an O'Day Widgeon that was recently given to me. Thanks!

I am contemplating a dark green for the Hull, white in between the rails and white and tan for the deck. I'm also thinking about a bark colored sail. I made the rafters out of red oak (that was a bear to cut). I have not purchased the wood for the bright areas. A friend of mine was able to get some nice wood from Delaware County Supply Company.

It was much easier to work on the basic setup for the steering without the sides. Also with this modification there is no need for u-bolts to poke out the sides. I am using Epoxy with the glass, specifically the West System. I started using it to fillet the interior joints as well as where the deck meets the sides. It is solid as a rock! I am very pleased with West although it does take a lot of filler (low density, filleting blend, high density) to thicken the epoxy.

Well I have not posted much, so I figured I better catch-up. :? Bought the plans in the Fall of 2002. I started the boat January 2003. A little work here, a little work there. Next thing I know I need help to flip the boat! :shock: We had a cookout at my house this weekend and my brother helped flip over McTavish. I am going to put the rubrails on after I glass the bottom so I can finish them bright. My only concern about rolling the boat with out a rub rail was the top edge. Not a single creak! Thanks guys. Nockamixon sounds like a good place to sail. I'm also planning on the top of the Chesapeake, LBI and the Adirondacks. Not all this year but that's the plan. Your boat looks great Tyler. From the pictures of your launching, I can see how a lower V-shaped crossbars would help decrease the overall height of the boat and trailer as Dave mentioned. Just how tall is that puppy sitting on the trailer?

Hi all, I am building a Weekender and I hope to have it on a trailer later this summer. Can anyone tell me the appropriate trailer size? I'll be hauling it with an SUV, so I know I need to worry about the bow sprit not poking through the back window! Other than that I would like to have 14 inch tires. There are some web sites with trailer size but not neccessarily boat size. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Frank I am very sorry to hear about your dad. I lost my dad in October. He was my inspiration for building McTavish. I wrote a poem to help me deal with the range of emotions one goes through.
