Building a trailer

I would like to have a trailer to set my boat on this spring when I flip it back over. Since my son has returned from Iraq (without any holes in him, he says), he wants to build me a trailer. I saw Phil's line drawing but he mentioned in his caption that he would build it different now. Any ideas? I noticed the Glen-l trailer plans, anyone have thoughts as to which one fits.

The 1000 would probably work well with larger wheels rather than the smaller wheels. The only challenge I see is the length with the bowsprit. So If you are gooing to pull with a van or another vehicle that the sprit won't clear then you need a longer trailer. Since you are building off the plans, the tongue could be lengthened some. Although I was told to make it a little heavier duty if the the tongue were lengthened.

The Glen-L book is the only plans book out there that I'm aware of although other sites offer trailer plans.

Your should ask Pat how he made his trailer. He had it done it a weekend.

Nice to hear from you again Jan. Tell him thanks for his service again. You have been quiet and I wondered what stage you were at just this weekend. Tell him to take few bucks and buy one for Mother. In our area, five hundred will buy anything to carry that boat on with spare change to pay for the tags. Check around before you deal with building one. Find an old boat that is useless and the trailer is okay. Most of the time people will be glad to get rid of the junker boat hull if you will haul it off on the used trailer. Also make sure the person has a title to it. Lost title is a pain in the rear. I am headed out to the Florida Keys myself and enjoy some tarpon fishing time with mine just back from Haiti. I'm back. Had to go to Reno for a little celebration. (My son being safe) I talked to Shaun and I know he wants to build me a trailer but he did mention the rules about getting it inspected and how it could be tricky with the DMV, I am all for buying a new one and maybe having him do the modifying for me. Like the bunks. I would think that even pressure would be better than all the pressure being on the keel. I will be towing behind a van too, so I'm looking into what size would accomodate the bowsprit length. Barry thanks, I agree at least 14 inch wheels because the closest lake to me is about 50 miles on the freeway. Not many "sailboat" trailers out there ready made. I am still in the hull bottom stage so I have a month or so to go before I need one. Heating the garage was costing me 100 extra a month in electricity :shock: So I shut down for a while. It was hard to focus anyway this last winter. Wish we could move all our guys out of there. Thank you Oyster. I will pass it on to Shaun. Hope you have a fun time.
