Thanks A spokeshave will not do the job if the spar is of any significant diameter and the only place I can offer as a possible source for a spar plane is ebay or a used tool dealer. Better yet make your own. There was a thread running not too long back might want to "SEARCH" for it. Quote

Thanks Spar planes gave builders speed back in the days before power sanders, which is probably why you don't see them made any more. A spoke shave, as Dave says, wouldn't work well because it wasn't designed for long, straight surfaces...its sole is too short....too easy to make dips. Instead, use both a jack and smoothing plane or two smoothing planes. One set to take a full shaving...the other set for a very fine shaving. Take your square stock to 8ths then 16ths on the table saw....then to 32nds with the jack plane....then use the smoother to take to 64ths...then sand. Quote
