Flipping the boat

I suppose I'm too late and yoou've flipped your boat. Still, I'll tell you what I did. My bride and I did it by ourselves and managed just fine.

First I lifted the ends of the boat of the dolly and set them up on supports. Then I removed the parts of the dolly that extended up to support the boat near the chine. I slid the dolly out from under the boat and then set the boat down on some old blankets on the driveway.

Next, I attached supports to the dolly that I had already made. One of them took the foredeck across the mastbox. The other went into the cockpit and extended to the bottom panel. (Since I did the slatted seats they weren't installed yet.)

I installed the modified dolly on top of the boat and held it in place with a couple of long ratchet straps. Once the dolly was in place, we simply rolled the boat over onto her side and then the rest of the way onto her wheels.

My driveway slopes quite a bit and so we used gravity to help roll the boat but I think we'd have had an easy enough time on the flat.

When it came time to re-right the boat, I was alone. I got the dolly out from under the boat and lowered it to the floor. Then I rolled it up onto the gunwale and walked it across the floor (I did this in the garage) until I had room to lay the boat down right side up. Since I was on the topside with the boat on edge, I started to let it down onto the bottom and ended up riding as the weight moved away from me and beyond center. No damage though and getting it back onto the dolly was a snap.

I have let my guests come and go without flipping the boat. I felt guily imposing. :oops: But since I have seen so many good ideas from everyone , I think my husband and I can do it alone. So I guess it will be this weekend.
