How much did the draft increase with the 260# you added?

On my slightly elongated Weekender I would like to have about 3 or 4 more inches, I am guesstamating approx 300 - 350 #s

Wow thanks for all the info, I never can remember all those formulas!

I'll have to figure on more weight than I had originally guessed.

Or go with only enough weight to offset the added sail area of the schooner rig.

To get as much hull in the water as I had planned would make the dang thing too heavy for easy trailering.

I think I'll start at around 400# and work up or down from there.

Trey, I put ~260lb of lead plate in the forepeak surrounding the mast foot. It brought the trim down to where she floats level in the water with myself and one other pax (120lb) in the cockpit. I doubt it made a 1/2 inch difference in the overall draft, however the trim is very noticably improved. She sets slightly low in the nose with one person aboard. I love your motor mount. I would like to get that big Honda off my transom but there is no way without a major redesign.

With two large deep cycle batteries in the forepeak Nokoni also floats a little bow down with no one aboard an level with my 180 # aboard.

I would like to add enough ballast to counter the extra forces of the extra mast and sail and also increase her stability a bit.

Glad you like the motor mount, I am working on enclosing the trolling motor into the slide assembly today.

And hope to get the keel extended tomorrow, if it isn't too cold or damp to crawl under there and do it.

This time I'll try to remember to take progress pictures while mod is under way.

I'm only 5' 10 use to be over 200# but have seemed to settle now between 180 - 185. I must be melting :roll:

Alright, something I know about, 1" thick steel is 40.84 pounds per sq. ft.

I'm not sure yet Craig, most likely I won't know until I get the rig completed and measure to start sewing up the sails, if I were to venture a guess it would be a little more than twice the area of the standard Weekender.

Trey, I tacked the drawings you sent us up on the wall in my office. Everyone comments on how nice it looks. One of my guys walked in, looked at the drawings and loudly announced that my wife was going to kill me for building another boat! I think he knows something I don't. The proportions are perfect I think. If the ballast doesn't work for the righting moment then a switch board center board may be a better option then a longer keel. There is a big Bolixi Schooner over here that uses that method and she works very well in the strongest of winds so the master told me. She has about the same hull ratios as our boats roughly 3 to 1.

Aaah you must mean the Daniel Webster Clements ?? If so was built just down the road by Mr. Zirlott in Coden, Alabama, and the Biloxi Schooner has a short full length keel from stem to rudder plus the center board.

The Clements she is! She is moored in Destin about half way up the harbor.

She is a nice boat. Speakng of which Eden Gardens has taken ownership of the Governer Stone from the museum at Applach. They are looking for help to keep her in shape. Sounds like fun but is a ways to go from here. Nearly to the ditch and a bit north.

There is another Zirlott built Biloxi Schooner in Mobile on Dog River named the Jousha is a sister to the DWC both 70 ft or so.

and lets not forget Biloxi, MS has two the Mike Sekul, and the Glenn L. Sweatman.

My plans for my bigger boat are based on the Biloxi Schooner also, will be about 30 ft LOD 10 ft beam.

it is a major project, but One I been Dreaming of for years.

I want a boat that is big and roomy enough that if The Dawg and I get sent out to the dog house, we can just go stay at the boat till things calm down!

Aw, gee is this a competition? I weigh in at 70kg, times 2.2 is, erm 154 pounds .... And no I'm not 5'3" I'm 5'8 1/2". And yes the 1/2" is important when you live down here in lowsville!
