  1. Some more fun pictures! We plan on taking it out next weekend!
  2. I am nearing the end of my YMCA swim season so I’ve been a little busy but I found time this weekend to work on my boat! I worked on the strips in the outside and then flipped it over to start work on the inside of the boat! My cousin who is very artistic is making a sticker that says The Ritalou for the back. And if you remember from one of my first post I wanted be brave in the white lines so she is making that for me as well! (My dad will be happy to hopefully get his garage space back!)
  3. After a long but successful high school season, the end of first semester, and getting my drivers license!!! I have finally found time to work on my boat. We put the first layer of white primer about a week ago. Then started mixing red paint and white primer to make pink primer and did the last 2 coats of primer pink! It was super cool to finally see what I have been picturing in my head come together. This morning I got up to start sanding with 220. And we will start working around 9:30 on the next steps. My goal was to get it done by the end of February but now that we are off school for a week I’m hoping end of January to mid February. If no curve balls come my way!
  4. Hi salty cracker I had to take a break during my high school swim season so I have not been working much. Point padre just got the paint for my boat in so I hope to start painting it myself next weekend! I know you will love building a boat with your kids! It will be a forever memory! My best advice is take time! Don’t rush it. And it’s OKAY to make mistakes I made multiple mistakes and we found away to fix them all! Don’t get frustrated just take your time!
  5. MY SAIL HAS ARIVED!!! I am still working on getting it painted. Hopefully we get in by Monday to pick out the shade of pink that I want! I do leave for 3 weeks to go sea kayaking in the Great Lakes!
  6. It’s been awhile since I posted, sorry for the wait. But it is all loaded up in the trailer to take to get painted. We will be talking it on Friday to the paint shop as well as get my first dove of the covid vaccine!! A since of normalcy is finally coming back! I also have all my varnishing done, I just need to do some light sanding. The pole is done just need to do some sanding on that as well. My dad was excised to get his spot in the garage back!
  7. Point padre and I got some stuff done the past couple days. We got the second coat of epoxy on the boat, I started varnishing the parts I want to show wood, we got the boom made and I started varnishing it. We started Getting ready to put the rudder together. And lastly we put the keel on tonight! I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
  8. Nice enough to keep the door open well we work today!!
  9. Sorry I have not posted in awhile I had a sprained ankle and finally got off my crutches!! I have been working on my boat a lot and it’s nice to get back to working on it. I got to layers on the bottom of the seat tops sanded them and then buy a third layer on this morning. My parents also surprised me with my own circle sander! So I have been working on sanding the first two coats on the inside of the boat. Point padre and I also count and glued in the hatch rings. He even taught me how to use his bandsaw! I also got a chance to show off my boat to my parents friends during there outside social distancing party. They all thought it was very impressive! My little bother thought it was cool that he could sit in it! He sat like this for about an hour watching a movie on a phone?
  10. Today I got a lot of the tape and the first of three layers of epoxy done! It’s super fun to work on and all my teachers and friends are very interested in the build as well I get asked almost every day to see updated pictures! I even brought my plans into school one day and everyone was very interested!

  12. Last night we took a pretty big step on my boat my parents and siblings even came out and helped me in it! Can’t wait to keep building! I have school on Monday and Tuesday but plan to continue to build on Thursday and Friday and I can’t wait!
  13. Yesterday I started my boat! I got all my finger joints together and transom together!!! I can’t wait to keep working today!
  14. Tonight I decided to label all the parts of my boat with sticky notes to help me get organized and familiar with the parts of my boat I can’t wait to start building!
  15. I would like to make my boat have a lot of meaning besides the fact that I built it, I have been thinking hard about what I want to do with my boat and I have finally have decided on a name for my boat I have been going back and forth between too names The Weezer and The Ritalou. Both of the names have a lot of meaning to me Weezer being a child hood nickname from my grandpa and Ritalou being my middle name and also my late grandmas first name and middle name put together. I decided to go with The Ritalou and might costume a sail with Weezer on it. For my paint colors I am deciding to go with pink with a white stripe down the middle, I would like to think I’m a bright person so that is why I went with those colors. I was planning on putting the words be brave on the white stripe it is a small quote that means a lot to me! I would also like to show that it is a wood boat so I want to just varnish the seats, if anyone has a good suggestion on what I should do for the rest of the inside of the boat I would love that!!! But as of right now those are my plans but knowing me they could change a little bit!!
  16. I just finished my building form for my boat build!! I will start the boat on Thursday or Friday of this week, and I can’t wait!!!
  17. I just got the wood, plans and epoxy for my boat build! I plan to read over the blue prints and watch some videos about building the boat and make myself familiar to it. And plan to start mid to end of January!! I can’t wait to get started!
