The plans say to install the inwales after you go 3d but before filleting and taping. I am having a little trouble defining the relation of the inwales to the bulkheads. do the inwales sit on top of the fwd and aft bulkhead? Thanks Joel

Thanks thats a good idea. I have found a supplier in Salt Lake that has 6mm Okuome for $79 but only has the Meranti to the 6566 standard. It seems it would defeat the purpose to go with Meranti for its durable characteristic and drop the standard. I talked to Noah's in New York and they can ship to Utah for $150 and they have 1088 okuome for 50. I'll probably get them to ship the Okuome and Meranti. I think I do want to do the bottom in Meranti Joel

If I go the same route, do you think I should wait until after I form the hull to cut the forward bulkhead and then fit it to the hull? that way i wouldn't have to fill.

That is great. I think Joe is sailing to Master Roshi's island. Did Wes put that model together? I might do that for the cs 20. I bet I could learn a lot by making a scale model before I put the real one together.

Wes I went on today and it let me on fine. Yours is one of the best sites to show the progress of building and I'm the process of ordering materials. quick question. If you were to build again would you still go with Meranti on the bottom of the hull. I will be ordering plywood soon. I am leaning to your idea of using it on the hull Thanks Joel

The sides look like they take two whole sheets of plywood and part of a third. the third sheet also has other pieces. Is there enough room to put in the scarfs and still cut out the other pieces as shown or do we need to use the butt joint on the sides?

I got my plans today (yea) and I noticed that Graham has Oduome, Meranti, sepele, Luan and Kaya (which i've never heard of) listed as recommended as long as it meets BS 1088 standards. I don't know why but I thought that anything other than Okuome was deviating from the plans. Its good to have plans now my questions can be somewhat more intelligent. Joel

I got my plans today. Yipee.... Now I'm hitting in the Big Leagues. If I go bright for the deck, how hard is it to get it to match or show lots of filler ect... If I paint the deck I can just beat to fit and paint to match

My cs 20 will be available for sale this fall after season is over. If it sells, I will build a replacemnt during winter. Replacement will be aft deck instead of aft seat. It will aslo feature a quarter sawn ribbon stripe Sapele deck finished bright. After sanding deck and epoxy coating it I will glass it with 4 oz finishing cloth and smoothing that out and then covering with System 3 WR LPU high gloss clearcoat.. And it will be garage stored when not out sailing. As such it should not need maintenance for years and years. I'm not planning on finishing my deck bright eventhough I love the look of Wes's and other bright finished decks. This is mostly because of maintenace issues, well maybe more of a personality flaw my being lazy and a procrastinator. I really would prefer a bright deck. Will the technique you describe work for me? Joel

I am build a cs 20 so I will be buying 15 sheets but I still imagine that it would be cheaper to drive out the west coast L.A. or the bay area to get plywood. There is only one store I have found online in Salt Lake that sells Okuome and I think they had it in half sheets. I might call and see if they can order in full sheets

I looked at allied. they have a shop in L.A. I could drive down and get the wood. They don't have prices listed online so I will have to call. I think Noah's is in upstate New York and I'm in Utah

I was just on Noah's web site and they have Okuome BS 1088 listed for $49 and Joubert BS 1088 for 75. Whats the difference? both are 6mm

that article was very helpful. It sounds like no matter if I choose okuome or meranti I want to use the 1088 standard for the wood. The question that remains is okuome or meranti. Is there a design consideration other than weight?

I think I found the answer to my own question. Aquatek is BS 6566 rated and Hydrotek is BS 1088 rated. However I don't know what the ratings mean other than the 1088 seems to be a higher rating. can anyone enlighten me?

Joe Why did you go with Okuome on the deck? is there a differnce between aquatek and hydrotek besides the brand name?

I weigh 240 I could make the 50lb up with diet and exercise Does that 50lb make a difference? are there other considerations with the meranti other than the weight? I've also read in previous threads that meranti isn't as easy to work with. Is the $500 price difference worth it?

Back to the old Meranti/hydrotec vs. okuome question. I know Wes put Meranti on the bottom of his hull because it is tougher and more rot resistant. Has anyone built an entire CS 20 out of meranti? will the extra weight of meranti make a difference is a CS 20? What is the difference in BS 6566 Okoume and 1088 and Joubert I'm excited to finally be underway Joel

I just ordered the plans. I'm Hull #128 for the Core Sound 20.E I won't be able to start building until September. In the Mean time does anyone have suggestions for getting plywood in Utah? Epoxy and glass are readily available here. and I plan on ordering most of the components from B&B. Joel
