  1. I guess I wasn't super clear. I went with the thin style of the laminated beam (same shape) but cut it out of okumne plywood instead of laminating it. I have attached a photo of where I am at.
  2. Hi On the vardo instructions there are instructions for a coaming brace that doesnt actually attach to the coaming. I didnt see instructions in the book so am a bit confused on where/ how it attaches to the boat and how best to shape it. Any instructions would be helpful. Thank you! Nate
  3. Didn't see a response to my previous question so I'll post again: Any reason you can't just cut the shape of this deck beam out of plywood? Not seeing a response I did this with Okumne. I haven't finished lashing but it seems plenty strong. Thoughts?
  4. Any reason you can't just cut the shape of this deck beam out of plywood? Do you have have to use the laminated technique? I was thinking the Okumne plywood would be plenty strong. Thanks!
  5. Following up with another question. Once the gunnels and chines are shaped to the bow and stern do you lash them right away or should the rest of the boat be lashed first? To me it seems like it would be best to start in the center and lash towards the ends but I want to make sure this is correct. Thanks!
  6. Hi I've got all the frames and stringers bungeed on for my Vardo and need to attach the stern and keel next, however I have a quick question about keel length and the plans. The plans say that the keel should be 14'2" but the first and last frame are 15'3 and 1'9" with probably about 2.5" of keel past the last frame into the bow and stern notch. This would only come to a length of 13"11". Not sure if I am just nitpicking or if I somehow missed another 3 inches somewhere? Also do you recommend lashing the bow and stern to the keel and deck beams before cutting and filing the gunnel and stringers? Thanks! Nate
  7. Just saw this thread. I am 5'9"" and about 145-150 lbs. Was originally planning on building the Vardo so I would have plenty of space for a multi day camping trip but I also want to be able to take it out for day trips. Am I so light that day trips without gear will give me problems tracking? If so is there a better build that still has the extra room? Thanks!
